You're supposed to eat about 2000 calories a day, so I would highly doubt that your friend, or anyone else, burns 3000 calories a day.

Well, burning 3000 calories purely with exercise would be impossible, but if you think about exercise + how many calories your body normally burns on a 24 hour day then yes its possible.

I think people are misunderstanding your friend. She might possibly burn 3000 calories a day---not through exercise, but TOTAL, including her resting metabolic rate plus activity calories. She would likely have to be fairly muscular and bigger than average, and she'd have to be really active, but it is possible (my guess, however, is that she's exaggerating).

At your weight, which is a major factor to consider, you're probably not burning 3000 per day, but with your 5-mile runs you might be over 2000, maybe as high as 22- or 2300. (It would depend on a lot of factors, including how much of your weight is muscle, and you'd have to undergo a body composition test to find out for sure).

You eat about 3000 calories a day. 3200 calories is a pound. You burn calories by eating, digesting, walking, ect. So yes your friend may burn 300 calories a day and you probably do to.

How much does your friend weigh? 6 and a half tons? You can run the whole Boston marathon and still not burn 3000 calories.

You burn at least 1500-2000 cals a day just being alive! this explains why you need to eat 1500-2000 cals a day to maintain a healthy weight. As for using another 1000 cals on top of this, it sounds a bit extreem to me
