when I put something in the bin, the icon does not change to show full,unless I retart my pc then the icon shows full, then I empty the recycle bin but the icon does not change to show empty?

does right click desktop > refresh work?
you may have lots of programs/processes running which can cause this.

I noticed that. it does the same on my computer. Not been bothered to do anything about it as the recycle bin seems to work OK. Too many other problems with Vista to get sorted.
