I want to terminate my cell phone account, however I have one year contract left.
I do not want to pay terminate fee... If I just stop paying bill, are they gonna terminate my account?
I didn't give them my SSN... so I think it will not harm my credit.
Is that right?

The cell phone company will shut off your service until they are paid in full. If they are not paid in full within a certain amount of time (this will vary by company), they will list your account with a collection agency. A collection agency will make attempts to get the debt paid in full–a good agency will not hound you–and if that doesn't happen, it is possible (but NOT certain) that they will try to sue you. It can depend on how large the balance of the account is. Once the account is listed with the collection agency, you will have 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt. After that thirty days, it will be reported to all three credit bureaus, no matter if you gave them your SSN or not. Cell phone accounts DO affect your credit score, which can later affect your ability to rent apartments, buy a house, get a car loan, etc. Your best bet would be to either pay the termination fee or stick it out with your present cell phone company.

They will cancel your service, obviously. They'll be wanting that early termination fee. Add to that what your bill was for the last month that you're not going to pay. And don't worry, they'll have someone trying to collect from you, because even if they don't have your ssn, they probably have an address, maybe? Your home phone #, if you have one? Try to see if there's any possible way you can legitimately cancel the contract without going this route.

They will turn you over to a collection agency who will hound you. They will take you to court and win a judgment. They will then attach your bank account, garnish your wages, or lein your property.
Don't have anything now. No problem. Judgments are good for 10 years can be renewed. They can wait.
Meanwhile, your credit will be trashed. You won't be able to get another cell phone adn wil have to (gasp) use pay phones.

When I did my chapter 7 bankruptcy, my lawyer asked if I had any cell phone bills in which I wanted to include in my bk papers. He asked me this because he said that cell phone bills which are outstanding do NOT go on your credit report when they pull it up. Therefore it can NOT affect your credit history.

They'll terminate your account, but you'll still owe the fees. It's unusual that they didn't get your ss# up front, they usually do. But don't count on it not huring your credit. They have your name and address.

You are a deadbeet and the cell phone company will try to collect all monies owed to them plus interest, late fees, and collection fees. Your best bet is to just pay.
