My colleague got a promotion and her old job is up for grabs. I'm bascially her understudy and I was very interested in the job in the beginning and I expressed my interest to my boss. My boss didn't seem too impressed with me as far as taking over and I figured that management was probably looking at other options, which was fine, though I couldn't understand why I wasn't at all being considered. In the meantime, I did some soul searching of my own and realized I really don't want the position, though I do want the money, and have decided to look outside my department for other options in the future. As it turns out I'm now being considered for the job, I think they're desperate, but I no longer want it. Will it look bad if I still don't apply for it because I'm no longer interested? Should I apply?

Talk to her about it some to see if you might really like the job. You certainly don't want to be in a position that you dislike. Good luck with your decision.

if you're sure you don't want the job, then don't apply - you'd look pretty silly if you apply, they offer it to you, then you turn it down.
