Hello, I'm moving to Victoria soon and I just wanted to know if winters there are similar to Vancouver's and how cold, dark does it get.

Yes, very similar. There are some differences, but the bottom line is your average winter day is above freezing and raining. Come Spring time Victoria gets less rain than Vancouver. This says for January Victoria averages 10 hours more sunshine and 1 day less rain.

The problem is that averages don't really tell the whole story. The weather is a gamble and any given day, week or winter could treat one city or the other a bit nicer than the other.

They are similar to some extent to Vancouver although they can be slightly milder. I have gone over from the mainland wearing boots and then switched to runners then back to boots as a snow storm blew in overnight. Generally snow does not last long and the weather is generally mild so heavy clothing is not needed. There are, of course, exceptions and even a small amount of snow and ice there can cause problems simply because they are not used to it, same as in the main part of Vancouver.

So I guess it is similar to Vancouver although perhaps a tiny bit milder. It does get dark early in the winter although the days can be sunny, in this aspect it is like Vancouver.

If you're close to the water it can feel cooler than Vanc. just cuz of the wind chill factor but other than that it is milder than vanc by just a bit. Last year they did get snow but not as much as vanc and it melted a lot faster too.
