Definitely elegant, according to your definitions. But then again I was trained Gardnerian, so... ;-)

I guess I would be a mix of the two. I like the tools I have but, I don't need a lot of fanfare. I enjoy it, when I have the time but here lately...that just DOESN'T seem to happen. I have my altar at the end of the hall, right by my bedroom. I can just walk down there and hold a ritual when I want to. It used to be that I made a BIG deal out of ritual, by going outside, setting up , and holding a ritual for at least an hour. Now that I have neighbors, within spitting distance, that's kind of out of the question. Sometimes I miss being in the country.

One should be able to be BOTH, as the occasion calls for.

There is everyday, "chore" witchery", spells, regular Esbats, meditations and other common, everyday acts of Witchcraft. these acn and ARE often done on a less formal level, as needed, on the spot, little time for FORMAL preparation.

Then there is "Special Occasion" Witchery, Anniverseries of important events in your Witchy life. Handfastings, Presentings, Invitations of Spirits to high sacred events, Intitiations, Things lke that. things that willl hold special significance, in and of themselves to SOMEONE, either YOU, the People that you're doing it for OR the Spirits who are invited to attend. These Can and SHOULD be celebrated on a more FORMAL level.

Sometimes, it IS an essential part of the ceremony that the Witch LOOK like a Witch. Other times it is NOT so necessary.

Can one be simply elegant?

I don't often use a lot of "stuff", although I have a lot of "stuff" laying around because, well, you never know, right? But mostly I'll focus on one element, because the work is all mental, anyway. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a certain "elegance" to working simply.

Definitely simple here. My wand was made by myself from an Oak branch that I removed the bark from and inscribed with a wood burner, then I wire wrapped a crystal I bought for a few dollars with some bare copper wire.

Remember the power comes from within yourself not the props that you use, but if the props help you to focus then they have done their job.

With me....I tend to be a little of both depending on the situation. I love tools and atmosphere but my things can be very simple as well. Mood makes a difference too.......

I'm a simple witch. I have never felt comfortable with using tools. They interfere with my focus, more than they help. I have them but I hardly have ever used them. The same way with speaking my rituals. I don't.

Not a witch, but if I had to classify myself I'd be a simple one.
While I do use tools sometimes, I always make them myself.

Can I be both?!? Why can't I be both? Different situations call for different ways. Why can't I be eclectically eccentric?

I am both, different needs, different workings. Sometimes things can be as simple as channeling a Lwa. What difference does it make? Do what you need to do, when you need to do it, and use what you have. Only you have the answer as to what needs to be done, and how it is to be done.
