My daughter is 5 years old and has had a fever for almost a week. She went to the pediatrician and he said it was an upper respiratory infection because she had a cough as well. Today she woke up with spots on her and I think they may be chickenpox. It is on her back, arms, legs, behind, and face. There are like 3 on her face. I am asking any experienced parents for their info.

She just woke up this morning with them. I am calling her doctor in the morning. I was just wondering. Thanks to all who have responded so far.

Yes, this is classic chicken pox. If they were around the areas that are the warmest first, that is a sure sign. She is contagious until the pustules are dried out. They may get worse before they get better and she will itch. Put oatmeal in a cloth bag and run it under the water in the tub, wash her with the saturated bag, it will ease the itching. You can also use calamine or caladryl lotion on the sores to ease the itching. Protect her eyes, keep her from the sunlight as the chicken pox has a tendency to weaken the eyes.
EDIT: Bedbugs bite in a line or a row. These are NOT bug bites.

I had chicken pox when I was 14 and thats exactly how mine started - they werent even that itchy at first - I too just thought it was a rash and went along to school, it was only during my 2nd lesson of the day that I had a really itchy back and I asked a teacher to see what it was as I couldnt stop scratching it and immediatly she said I had chicken pox!!
But the marks your daughter has now are as about as worse as mine got - I wasnt even ill, just moderate itching was the worst of my symptoms.
Thus far however my children have not had them, although I wish they would as its meant to be better to get them young (so rumour has it)
Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery!!!

Whenever my kids have high temperatures and infections they always break out. The doctor said that it's a sign that you are at the end of the infection. I would definitely have the doctor look at this just in case. Has she had her chicken pox immunizations?? It's required here in GA.

I cant tell from the photos because they arent up-close on the spots. My dad is a doctor and when my baby was sent home from daycare with a non-specific allergic reaction... the school thought it was chickenpox.
My dad asked me if the spots looked like "a dew drop on a rosepetal"... meaning a flat red area and a little fluid filled bump on it. If the spots look like that - its pox.

Of course he looks a lot like Tom. They're twins! I love guys that wear dark eyeliner, but I actually think he looks gorgeous both ways and possibly every way there is =]

It sure looks like chicken pox to me. Especially they way they're spread around. I know you know not to let her itch them or scratch them. I still have my chicken pox marks from my childhood. I'm glad you're taking her to the doctor. Give her a hug for me.

I dont think they are. Chicken-pox are big and look like pimples. Most likely to be bug bites. Do you live in a hot country?

They don't look like chicken pox at all. Could be Fifth's Disease. The fever would explain that, too.

Definitely. Get to a doctor,
as soon as possible. They
might be able to give you
medicine, just to chill it out,
and help prevent it from
worsening.
