Seriously, where in the Bible does it say to worship Mary? She's just a person, not a goddess.

They do not worship Mary or the saints. Since this question has been asked and answered thousands of times, I shall merely say *cheers* and encourage you to go back to your church (after studying the Catholic faith) and ask them why they lied to you about Catholicism. I would question any church that knowing slanders another faith.

We don't. What makes you think we do? Have you ever gone to a Mass? Have you ever really researched to find out what the Catholic Church believes regarding Mary or are you going on what you've heard and assumptions you've made?

We honor Mary as the Mother of Christ. This makes her special and gives her a higher place than the rest of us. She was chosen to carry God incarnate...there is a real WOW factor there.

We know she is in heaven with her Son and we offer petitions to her and ask her to pray for us. She is our spiritual mother and you can go to your mother for anything.

Some say she is dead. How can a Christian believe that the Mother of God would be dead? Didn't Christ conquer death? Wouldn't his own Mother be one of those brought into heaven? Of course she would. Jesus is God and man. He is perfect. The 5th commandment is to honor your father and mother...he would have kept that commandment perfectly.

Some say, Mary was just another person. Now think about it. Would God randomly ask different women to carry and mother his own Son or would he choose a perfect vessle? She is called the New Eve. Eve was born without sin...therefore Mary would be given the same grace. Eve said No to God and Mary said Yes to God. She was the vessel God used to usher in salvation.

If you read up on it you'll find that it makes so much sense that she should be honored. But she is not worshiped. Worship is for God alone and Catholics know this. Mary, the Mother of Christ, would not want to be worshiped. She says "my soul magnifies the Lord" this means she shows Jesus to us. She points towards her Son...not toward herself.

I have been a Catholic my entire life, and I have NEVER ONCE worshipped Mary.

Mary sure wouldn't want to be worshipped, and I don't know a single Cahtolic who does!

We HONOR Mary.

Tell me...if you were in love and the person you loved said ," I love you with all my heart, I am willing to give my life to you. But I don't want anything to do with your mother, she is meaningless." How would you feel?

Jesus loved His mother. Mary brought him into the world because of her coopertaion with God's plan for us. She said YES to God!

She is an example to us- a human who lived up to all God wanted her to do.

We need more heroes like Mary!

She is revered as the human vessel which brought the Christ to us, but to say she is worshiped is a bit of an exaggeration,

now are their individuals with a a little more reverence sure,
may they take it to the point of worship yes,
does that mean all catholics worship her NO

Catholics do not worship the Blessed Virgin Mary or any of the other saints.

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.

Asking others to pray for you whether your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 946 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p5.htm#946

With love in Christ.

Uggg.. You know what? I'm not even a Catholic and I can tell you that they bloody don't worship Mary. They ask her to intervene on their behalf by putting in a good word with Jesus and god.

Where do you Protestants get these lies from?

Catholis do not worship Mary. She is venerated as the most highly placed of all the saints, but that does not constitute worship.

We don't.

Let me explain this simply.

A certain sector of protestants called fundamentalists, or evangelicals if you like that term better, say that we do because the fact that Catholics have the fullness of truth in God is a threat to them.

So they often say that we worship Mary and hold her up as a goddess. The ones who say this either know better and are lying to try to keep people away from the Church Jesus himself founded, or else the concept is just a little too comlex for them to understand fully.

We venerate Mary. That means we hold her up in great esteem, as the first human being who did exactly the same thing that we are supposed to do every day: bring Jesus Christ into a world that doesn't know Him.

If we pray to her, it is not adoration: it is one friend asking another to pray for him. When we address Mary, we only ask her to pray for us to her son, Jesus.

Is it wrong to ask a friend to pray for you?

Now that you know the truth, please go tell your little fundamentalist friends that Catholics worship only God, and if it's all just too complicated for their minds, just smile and tell them you will pray for them.

When you say that you pray to Mary and other heavenly saints to mediate on your behalf.. I read that in the new testament , we no longer need a mediator now that we have Jesus Christ. He Goes to the father on our behalf and makes intercessory prayer over us. I'm wondering where scriptually you find that we should pray to those (Except Jesus ) who are dead? I just don't read it anywhere.. not trying to be mean, just wanting clarification for my personal understanding, thank you

FOR THE LAST TIME THEY DON'T WORSHIP HER, WHERE THE FLIP DO YOU GET THE IDEA SHE'S A GODDESS? CATHOLICS HAVE NEVER BELIEVED THAT?
