It feels kind of rubbery... recently it was the right knee but increasingly its the right.... it keeps giving out and it's really painful at the sides..... it hurts most when I walk up and down stairs and when I kneel or bend my knees.
I don't think its arthritis as I'm only in my teens.... any suggestions on what it might be?

You could have
Tendinitis - Tendinitis is the inflammation or irritation of the tendons. The tendons hold muscle to bone and become irritated due to injury or overuse. This may cause pain or swelling, especially near joints. Tendinitis may be treated with rest, immobilization with a brace, medications and/or physical therapy.

Posterior Cruciate Ligament Injury - The posterior crucial ligament (PCL) joins the leg bones at the knee and prevents the lower leg from bending too far forward. PCL injuries are not common, and most that occur are related to car accidents or sports injuries. If a PCL injury occurs, it may be treated with physical therapy or surgery.

Meniscus Injury - A meniscus injury is damage that affects the cushion between bones at a joint. Menisci are found in many joints, but most injuries occur in the knee and are typically due to twisting the joint during sports or other activities. Treatment may require a combination of surgery and physical therapy.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury - An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is a knee injury due to the stretching or tearing of a ligament at the front of the knee that provides rotational stability to the knee. It is a common and serious injury. It is usually caused by twisting the leg while applying full downward pressure

I have had bad knees since I was around 12, so I know how bad that can be. If you have not been to a Doctor yet, you should, even teens get arthritis.

I have Fibromyalgia, which is a disease that causes wide spread pain, with much the same symptoms as arthritis. I did a lot of research to help me, and found I am chemical sensitive, and a low immune system were two things that were making me worse. I found that there are a lot of unsafe chemicals in cleaning products, bath & body care, beauty products, tooth paste etc. that was effecting my health. If you think this information might be of help, you can check it out at www.smartlivingsense.com I also found great vitamins and supplements that built my immune system up. I feel so much better it is amazing. I hope it can help you also.
Good luck.

recently you could have over strectched a muscle and now it is getting worse, but it might be a case of over use. I know it sounds stupid, but most the time when something is over used it either breaks or swells. Your knees might have swelled with over use such as cycling or walking.
I think you should drink milk, relax put your feet up and put some ice on them or something.
Dont do too much exercise if you can help it and try not to walk or cycling long distance, even to school can be hard because of hills!
if that fails then visit a doctor, they know what is best!

So you go to an osteopath, (bone doctor) they simply take 'you into a room do an xray and see whats up. They can see your cartilege, or they do an mri, anyway arthritus can happen at any age---more likely torn cartiledge. This is soooo common. If you have pain they can give you a cortizone shot right on painful area and next day pain is gone. I can tell you that. Losing wt. if your over is important, they say for every pound over weight you lose its 3lbs off your knees.

could be as simple as growing pains. but then again it might be something different. it's unusual but teens can have arthritis. go and get checked out with your doctor. If you think it might help try and go swimming, it will take the pressure off your knees and try and strengthen the muscles.

See an orthopedic doctor. Even though you are young you could still have a problem. The symptoms you describe are not normal for a teenager, so its best to see an ortho doc and find out what it is. Good Luck

Wow, I've only read about this condition in the textbooks. I never knew anyone who actually had it, in real life. It's known as McFeely-Rogers Syndrome, and it characterized by a distension of the lateral fibrous ligament, caused by chronic exposure of bare pelvic-area tissues to high levels of radon or barium gas. Because of the extreme rarity of this condition, it has heretofore existed only in theory. I strongly suggest that you remove yourself from the barium gas/radon source and seek immediate medical attention.

infection maybe? try to think and remember if you smoked dope, crack, or if you got drunk last night, or have diabetes. also, if you are taking meds, that might be it. the rubbery feeling suggests low sugar or side effect of some drug, actually, not tendinitis or arthritis.

one other thing i hesitate to tell you, if it is none of the above, you need to consult a neurologist to rule out a brain tumor or some other disease.

Teens can get arthritus, just so you know that.Did you injure it?It could be a pulled tendon, but it could be a thousand different things also. You may need to see a doctor to get some x-rays to find out whats really going on.I would suggest the latter.
