In a perfect world, all children born to Christians would be raised by an atheist family

I have always believed that children do not have to be "saved" at birth. After all, has the child sinned? Some say that a child is born in sin and therefore has to be saved. I don't believe that. A child has not sinned simply by being born. He is free of sin, and cannot be tempted by Satan, until he is old enough to know right from wrong. Once he learns right from wrong, he then should be prepared for baptism.

Do you believe that a person with the mentality of a 3 year old can sin? I don't. I do not believe that a person who has the mentality of a child can sin, and therefore he does not need to be baptized.

I believe that any child who dies before he reaches the age where he knows right from wrong goes to live in the presence of God automatically. And this goes for any person who is mentally retarded (or whatever the current politically-correct term is) and never gains the mentality where he can tell the difference between right and wrong.

No. Nobody is ever automatically saved. The Blessed Mother is an exception because she was preserved from sin so that she could be an immaculate vessel to house the Lord Jesus until He came forth into the world.

Everyone else needs to be baptized (In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) in order to be washed away from all sin and marked for Christ. If a child dies before baptism, they obviously have no personal sin, but their original sin remains. We leave these children up to the mercy of God's judgment, because God is the ultimate Judge of who goes to Heaven or not. We know that God will judge in love because He is Love.

Actually the bible tells us our children could be unclean or defiled but they are set apart by our standing with God. As for where they go NO ONE knows generally except God. We do not have the right to say "he went to hell" God may show us where he went and I can give you great odds on where someone is but unless the Lord shows me I don't know, no one else does, and it is His prerogative as to where they end up. Irregardless of what many church doctrines have stated in the past. It was the church that crucified Jesus and stoned Stephen.
And yet the thief on the cross made it to paradise that day.
God has NO grandchildren, to oversimplify it. I believe innocent children are shown mercy like the thief on the cross. At some time they are responsible for their own salvation though. this is called the "age of accountability" by some.
The real ? is are you saved?

Children who are baptized without understanding of The Father and of The Son cannot be saved by definition. This is a practice that goes against the doctrine of Christ. However, children under the age of reason can be saved by God.
