In Matthew 5:17-20 Jesus says he is not here to start a new religion, but to fix the Jewish one. So no John was a Jewish leader, on Gods side. It is the Catholic religion that has worked hard to change the truth to how they want it.
Back in those those days anyone that was Christian was called a Saint, as we are called Christian today. Before the Catholic church even came to be

John the Baptist lived in the desert and survived by eating insects. He wore rags of the most uncomfortable sort. He spent all of his time telling people that they were damned and needed to repent.
If John the Baptist were alive today, he would probably be exactly like the insane homeless people that stand around in big cities babbling inanely at passersby about the "end-times" and similar things.
If he were alive today he would be impossible to pick out from among all the other lunatics.
If someone actually bothered to kill him, no one would be likely to notice that he had either died or resurrected. Would you even know if one of the filthy weirdo street preachers had died and then shown up again the next day? Who pays enough attention to them to have even noticed?
Who would bother to kill someone like that? Everyone just ignores the loonies that yell at people in the street. If anyone killed him, it would probably just be some punks that were out killing homeless people just to have something psychotic to do.
Those homeless street preachers could end up getting killed and resurrecting fifty times a day without anyone even noticing.

Some claim Jesus and John were rivals. More likely, their followers were rivals. Da Vinci was a Baptiste, and therefore
tried to discredit Christ is some ways.

Most definitely. He was unkempt with long hair and beard, dressed in animal skin and holding a reed cross. He shouted about the coming of Jesus and for everyone to repent.

People will kill Christians like before, when Jesus comes back they will watch and the people they killed will come back to life. Then the non-Christians will see Jesus and be scared.

...John was NOT a Christian, he was a Jew and always remained as such... just like His cousin Yeshua (you know Him as Jesus)... Extreme...? everything "they" did was extreme and against formal "religion"...go figure. The word "Christian" is a "religiously invented" word by the Roman Church... Yeshua and John never taught otherwise.

I am looking forward to the 2 witnesses. Yes, the world will rejoice when they are killed, but will they be surprised when God raises them back up from the dead.

Very. American Christians prefer comfort and a "religion" that won't upset. No sin, no conviction, no death, no hell.
He was the one who was to come before the Lord.

I think that John was, and still is, considered by many to be the messiah. Now, he would probably be a cult leader...
