For the chase I think they should let the top 12 drivers race separate and only make it a 150 mile shootout. Then let the rest of the drivers out of the chase run a separate race. That would eliminate other drivers having an influence on the outcome of the chase and also it would reward the the 12 chase drivers with less work having to run less laps for the remaining 10 races.

It would also make it more difficult on the 12 chase drivers to have to bring a car with better setups. They would have less chances (pits) to work on their car during the race to achieve the best setup.

What are the pros and cons and do you have anything to add that would improve the idea?

Not! That sounds good but I like the bumber car effect these guys got to really fight to get thru the pack. Shows me they can actually drive. OOPs where is Montoya now??? OH heck he is on my tail, literally. Naughty boys. Gentlemen, prepare for battle. Fans love it and $$ sponsors, and networks now...
From purely a driver perspective I agree with you. Thanks. Boogety boogety, lets go racin!

* I would like to see the same cars everyone equal and make it a driver's race someday. But, it is a team sport. If you take out the 12 you need another league or race? Who knows! I like your thinking though. (also, female here)

Idea #1) Do away with the chase and the provisional and top 35 in owners points.Fastest 43 race and the most consistent wins thee championship.
#2) If we must endure this farce then do this;
12 cars in chase,12 races.The 1st chase race sets their position.Then the lowest finishing chase driver in the 11 th race is eliminated.Follow this format until the last race where #1 & #2 in the chase are left in the final event,the better finisher wins.

I got a simple solution to this mess:
Get rid of the Chase for the Championship, bring back the old system with added points for poles and wins and let every driver run for the Cup the full year and it would bring back the fans it has pushed away.

Where is the fun of the real competition? Two separate winner pots? Many people will skip one if the two races because their driver isn't racing.

Leave the Chase as it is.

I can just picture 12 cars on Talladega, and a wreck.

i am starting to hate the format they are getting in place...they keep changing it and it is always the best unchanged i think...i liked it in 2004 when they had 10 drivers and no extra points for wins...and now they might give the leader at the end of the regular season as they call it extra points now...they are going to ruin NASCAR by changing the Chase every year!

Leave it as it is.

The non chase car's add to the excitement .Makes more for those in the chase to have to get around .
