Hold the paper up to a light and if the paper is thin you may be able to read it.

Assuming you mean someone wrote on both sides of the paper with black marker...the only way I see of getting around that is to have the person rewrite it in pen. Shining a light on the side you are reading will probably help a bit, though I have never tried it.
