once a month at the batting cages sounds like a great father-son activity. as long as your son continues to want to practice, i think it's a marvelous idea. if a child is forced to practice and doesn't want to or misses out on being with friends...they often hold resentment and may dislike the sport all together. as long as it remains fun, go for it!

How did he do this year without the practice? Unless he wants to have a career as a professional baseball player there is no need to force him to play it all year long. Forcing him will just make him resent you and the game. If your son is ok without practicintg leave it alone.

Unless your son is lamenting that his dad isn't playing with him, i'd let it go. He clearly isn't worried about going into the Big Leagues. Maybe the boy just wants to play to have fun, not to compete like crazy. And he wants to take a break between seasons. If it means more to you than him, let it be.

i wouldn't worry about it. my kids play until the summer is
over, around february take them to the batting cages atleast
1 time a week just so they can get the routine back. and as
long as your husband practices with them in the spring he'll
be ok.

It would be great for your husband to step up throughout the year but there is also nothing wrong with you taking him as well. Sit down with both of them and have a family chat about it.

I dunno American culture that well but in N. irish culture then we'd let the boy practice as much as he wants and encourage him to do more. But that's it, we'd leave it there; we wouldn't push it if the boy didn't want to do more.
