I found this site about a military couple who need help with their debts. I donated a couple of dollars, but I was wondering, how long would it take to collect that much money and become debt free?

Why would you donate to people you don't know. Your family should get the money.

It's probably a scam. Probably not a military couple at all. More than likely not even a US citizen.

Right after 9/11, there were tons of sites asking for contributions. Turned out a lot of them originated in foreign countries and were just taking advantage.

Their story states that they now make enough money to pay their monthly bills, but can't get caught up from the previous arrearages. If that's the case, then they should seek consumer counciling and have their monthly payments negotiated. They could be on track in 12-24 months. $33K in debt isn't as bad as some debt cases I've seen.

You must always be careful with credit cards, car loans, mortgages and debt consolidation. Persoanlly, I was in debt of over $100,000 at one point in time, roughly 4 years ago. I am proud to say I am now DEBT FREE. It is very confusing on what to pay first how to chop down your debt, but there is a lot of good content out there to help. I have also started my own blog to help people out by talking about what I think is important. Check it out sometime!
