Is there even a difference between the Mac versions of the Microsoft word. Between professional and student? And I checked CompUSA's website, and it used to cost about $100, now it's about $220. And also, my Mac had a free version of it (which I used), and it keeps offering for me to buy it online. Is that a good investment? Because what if my computer crashes do I have to spend another $100 to redownload it, since it's not on a physical disc, it's off the internet?

I bought mine when I bought my new imac but it was $149 and it comes with entourage, powerpoint, Word , Excel, MSN messenger. I believe it was a good investment in my case. I got the Student and teacher edition because I didn't need no more than just powerpoint, excel and word. the proffesional and the student & teacher difference is that the pro has allot more stuff that is pretty much going to be useless if you are going to be using word the most. Pretty much like the vista stuff just cause you get the more expensive version don't mean you are going to use it all. Think about what your needs are and if it's even necessary to get the pro version. Oh and by the way I would suggest purchasing a phsycal copy not just a download. Because it kinda gives you peace of mind if you ever need to reinstall. Bestbuy sells it for mac and I'm sure compusa must also if not just go to apples website. Oh and by the way when you buy the software in the box it has the rights to install in up to 3 computers in your household.

Hi, if u like Microsoft Office and want to buy it go ahead. When u download it the first time and get the product key, keep the product key safe and make a copy of the installer to be able to reinstall it if ur computer crashes. That way u won't have to re buy it. The office professional version contains stuff required by companies and other professional users where as the student version contains the regular stuff like word processor, excel spreadsheet, etc. It all depends on ur needs. If u want something free then I suggest that u download OpenOffice from http://www.openoffice.org It is a full Office suite thats as good as Microsoft Office 2007. It supports all files even Microsoft Office ones and is completely free.
Good Luck!

The difference between "Home and Office" and Home and Student is that Microsoft Outlook is included with Home and Office, but not Home and Student. Home and Office is licensed for commercial use. Home and Student is not licensed for business use.

There are some major features in the Mac version of Microsoft Word that are not included in the Windows version - notably Publishing Layout View and Notebook Layout View. Word for Windows has most of the rest of the features of Word for the Mac.
