It's a manx shearwater, we think, the vet basically offered me two options - if it's wing is broken, she'll put it to sleep, if it's not broken, set it free after another 24 hours, then if it won't fly, she'll put it to sleep then.... not very interested obviously - she didn't even want to see it.
Any advice on any other options? Can I splint the wing or something? How do I find out if it's broken without distressing the bird? What do I feed it and how? It's got shredded fish and wild bird seed mix, but doesn't seem to be eating at all... HELP?!

I should have said I'm in the southwest of Ireland. I've tried the phonebook, but nothing's jumping out at me, and the local branch of the ISPCA isn't answering... I'll try them in the morning.

Keep the bird in a dark and comfortable place overnight, with food and water and leave it alone, as birds can very easily die of shock, and she may well go that way. You could try calling your equivalent of the RSPB and see what they advise, or hang on till morning and call the ISPCA for advice, there isn't much you can do for this bird, and I suspect your vet knows that. I hope it works out.

try the RSPB DO NOT GO TO THE RSPCA I have no faith ion them whatsoever they will only destroy the bird as per usual they are only caring whilst they are on tv being filmed other than that they cant tell their butt from their elbows ever.

Are you sure the wing is broken ? well what ever keep it quiet and warm and hydrated whilst it is in a state of shock/ good luck

I can't give any advice, but there's an excellent wildlife rescue centre here in Cumbria, who I'm sure would advise you on Monday morning. Their name is Knoxwood Wildlife Rescue on 016973 43812. They have an animal hospital and regularly save wild birds of different species. Good luck.

You need to get the bird to a wildlife rehab if it has a broken wing....not he vet. You need to do an internet search for one near you, or get in contact with your local wildlife agency to get a referral.

Get in touch with the RSPCA, they will come and collect the bird from you and treat it! In my experience you would need to get specialised care for the poor creature, that only a vet can administer!

Contact St Tiggywinkles in Haddenham, Bucks. They are a specialist wildlife hospital and may be able to advise.

Good luck

steve D has a good answer because I would have thought that broken wings could be reset.

Have you tried calling the RSPB? They might be a bit more helpful.
