A "theist' is anyone who believes that God exists. A "deist" is someone who believes that God exists, created the world with mathematical formulas and science or whatnot, and then just let it go without interfering in what happens. There are no miracles or divine ethics. Things happen as they happen. In other words, a "deist" is a "theist" with a specific set of beliefs, but a "theist" is not necessarily a "deist."

Deists believe in a God that works through natural processes and natural laws. Also, Deists don't tend to see God as a personal God. Instead, they usually maintain that God created everything, set the laws into motion, and then sat back and let everything go its course. Theists, on the other hand, usually believe in a God that listens to everyone's prayers and watches every move we make.

This is, of course, quite general, because Deists are quite the diverse bunch and tend to hold numerous individual beliefs, as do Theists. However, this is a good GENERAL picture of what the two believe.

A deist is a type of theist. Being a theist means you believe in some kind of god... the god is an undefined god. Being a Deist means you believe in a particular definition of god. One that is the creative force behind the universe but does not have a continued interest in his creation. This is opposed to the god of Christianity who has a personal interest in his creation, especially humanity, which is believed to be his crowning achievement.

I am no expert but a Deist believes that God does not interfere here in any way. I believe that God was the Big Bang and then He completely walked away and evolution took over.

I think He is appalled at how He is portrayed in the buy-bull.

A theist is anyone who believes in a God or gods. This includes the five major world religions. Deism (which is actually what most of our "forefathers" were) is the belief that, while a God exists and is responsible for Creation, He does not get involved in opperations of nature\our lives, or even necessarily have feelings about "us".

One is voiced, the other one is voiceless. Both are aspirated though.
