i am having a baby this year and someone said the if it is born after october or something like that you cannot claim it on your taxes the following year. i am just wondering if this information is correct or not.

Child has to be born in the tax year that you are filing for. For example for your 2007 tax return, which you will be filling out in 2008, your child could be born on December 31, 2007 at 11:59:59pm, and you could claim the child. Also, if a child is born, and unfortunately dies in the same year you can claim the child for the tax year, as long as it was not still-born.

No, it has to be born by the end of your tax year (usually 12/31) and needs to have a social security number by when you file (usually 4/15, but you can get an extension).

As long as the baby is born before midnight on Dec 31, you can claim him or her for the year. The "somebody" who told you October is wrong.
