for competing in long distance shooting, I kno im getting a 20 inch, chrome lined barrel, and its going to have A2 sights. I don't want to compete just yet, so heres the question. I could compete if I had an A4 upper with A2 sights attached, right? does the fact that the sights are removable change anything?
I was also gonna use this rifle for some small game hunting, so i want to be able to attach different optics to it.

YES..The fact that the A4 Handle is detachable changes nothing. You can compete, as this will not be an issue. The A4 Handle will actually come in handy if you want to compete in other class shooting events in time. I shoot an A4 myself in NRA sanctioned 200,400 and 600 yard competitions. The rail system underneath the detachable handle with allow you to mount most any optics you wish for a Holographic sight to a 20 Power A.O. Target Scope if you wish. You are only limited by your imagination.Good choice.Great Weapon.Go for it! You will not be disappointed.....

Sorry, but for competition you need the 1:8 stainless steel barrel. Check other people's NM rifles. It is much more accurate than the chrome lined. Chrome lined barrels are for heavy and careless use, regular steel is for mid way between chrome and stainless on both counts.

So long as the removable sights are well attached that won't be an issue.

For competition you want the National Match sight, but you could swap that in later.

Change to a decent trigger too, the GI trigger is god awful, for $100 you can drop in a RRA NM trigger that makes the world of difference.
