I am trying to start a diet program at an online diet place.

How do you get yourself to go out and move?

What exercises have you found to be helpful in getting your weight down?

I cannot do sit ups because of back problems, but I can walk.

Got any suggestions on how to help me??

What gets you motivated??

My goal is to be 150 before June 2008

Sorry about not adding this..my start weight is 230, and yes, it's my 20 UGH!! year reunion.

Actually why I want to do this, is a question that was raised here at Y!A and I want to see if that will help me in feeling better about myself and my hubby not be so much of an AZZ, but truly for myself.
I started a while ago, but lost track after a few hardships hit me, but I want to get

Hi

What makes me motivated to move:
1. We have a dog (very active dog). I take her for walks (until she is tired..she is young..so usually is about a mile). We go to the park and play ball. She is learning to retrieve..so means a lot of walking for me to get it.

2. Beautiful summer and spring (even fall) weather...I like walking (use to be a runner..but injury set me back to walking). I like to walk near the water...in the woods (armothreapy).

3. I make a list of daily goals. I put walks, strolls, etc on there.

4. I park my car in the furthest parking spot at the mall, grocery store. I insist on carrying bags to the car (if I don't have more then 2).

Exercises:
1. Walking on the treadmill/outside
2. Tricep exercises (gets rid of old lady flab)
3. reverse crunches
4. walking up and down the stairs
5. bike riding

What helped me:
Take your weight..divide by 8 and drink that many glasses of water a day. I make a chart...When I started..I started out 1 glass more then I drank. Then I increased it until ...i missed not drinking water. (if don't like taste of water....add crystal light or fruit). It makes you go to the bathroom a lot at first..but over time...it doesn't...

Only eat 2000 calories a day (check with your doctor first). Keep a log (or food journal) and write down everything you put in your mouth. At the end of the day..count the calories. It helped me become aware of what I was eating...and drinking...

eat from a smaller plate (dessert or child size plate). eat with smaller utensils

chew gum (sugarless)

Eat at the table (not in front of TV or reading...or in front of the computer is a no-no). Concentrate on eating...chew your food 25 times (each bite) and then swallow (when food is all ground up).

Take 2 tums before meals and after meals (helps break up food).

Drink a glass of water before your meal.

eat at least 1 cup of fruit and vegetables at each meal. finish fruit and veggies before rest of plate. Fills you up more. Try to drink at least 2-3 glasses of water during each meal.

those are some of the things that are working for me.

I carry an old picture of me when I was at my highest weight to keep me motivated. I walk every morning for 45 minutes. now that I'm in the habit, I feel badly when I don't walk. I kept a food diary when I first started and will write down what I eat sometimes just to make sure I'm still on track. it was a real thrill to buy clothes in smaller sizes. here are some sites than can help you, too. I read everything I could and used the advice that made sense for me. if I couldn't do it, I didn't. drink plenty of water every day, even if you buy flavored water. good luck! I went from a size 24 to a size 12, so you can lose it too.

Hi! I'm going to attempt to answer all your questions...keep in mind that all answers anyone gives are their own personal opinions or findings that work themselves...they may not necessarily work for you...but here goes...

According to my various fitness magazines (Shape, Fitness, Muscle & Fitness HERS, Oxygen), the #1 online weight loss site is Weight Watchers Online. It is also the #1 in-person weight loss group, which over 50% of their members losing the weight & maintaining their weight loss. I do not use any group, just wanted to throw that out there. :)

I have dogs...they are by far the BEST fitness buddy there is...they practically drag me out of the house for their daily walks!! Having said that, I also keep fitness magazines around the house & flip through them regularly. I hop online & look up fitness info, blogs about fitness, etc. that help to keep me motivated enough to want to stay fit.

Walk, walk, walk. If walking is what you can do, then do it & don't give up!! I have MS & sometimes walking is very difficult for me...so I grab my walker on those days & walk anyway. Because I can!!

I don't know your starting weight, but assuming your plan is to lose 2 pounds per week, then 150 is an attainable goal. You don't say WHY you want to lose weight. I'm assuming you have something 'big' coming up - graduation, prom, high school reunion, etc. That's a fantastic excuse to get started...but make sure you want to do this for you...you want to be healthy because you love yourself! You don't want diabetes, arthritic knee's, high cholesterol & a bad heart. You want to look & feel amazing for the long haul!! Now, that's motivation!!

Good luck!!

I've struggled with weight since I was a child but what has began motivating me are my 4 kids. I realized that in order to be able to care for them, I need to care for myself. As a good mom, I owe it to them to be around for them now and later. When you think about it, if you're phsically fit and feeling good about yourself, you can be more active with your kids, and be an all-around better mom.
It's not easy to get out there and work out, especially considering the fact my youngest is only 2 and home with me. I make sure I walk briskly every morning for at least 20 minutes and do some weight training 2-3 times a week. Walking is excellent, and as you lose weight, you'll feel up to trying other forms of exercise.
