The police probably had nothing to do with it. The tow company is authorized to hold the vehicle until the fees are paid. They charge a daily fee for storage, too... so if it is still there you may want to get it quick.

Not to mention... people move all the time, and do not notify the DMV right away. How would you like it if you moved into a new apartment and found a strangers car in your driveway?

It isn't a matter of stupidity. If your car is towed, it is impouded on an impound lot. You must pay to get it back. It is not the job of the police to tow your illegally parked car to your house, or for that matter to tow a disabled car anywhere.

Why are you so stupid to get arrested in the first place? Besides, if we towed it to your house and then it got broken into sitting in YOUR driveway, you would have the gall to sue us for damages - and we were only trying to help.

So, since I am sure that has happened at least once, departments require vehicles to be towed to secure impound lots for YOUR protection and ours!

NOTE: you don't have to be insulting to ask a question; all you did was make it emotionally charged and proved your own idiocy.

Cops don NOT get kickbacks. That is ridiculous. We also do NOT have ticket quotas, but that's another story. Those are just excuses people who break the law make to blame the police. It's not the officer's job to take your car to your house. Besides, if it got towed you were doing something illegal, and the impound fee you have to pay to get your car back is punishment.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, but it is not the police officers responsibility to tow your vehicle to your house. Maybe if you weren't so stupid, you could tow it yourself.

i got in an accident. i went to the tow truck driver and asked if i had options. he staright up said--if you pay for the tow, we'll take it wherever you want. so i got out my cash and did the deal.

most times, people do not carry enough cash to negotiate with the driver, it was a fluke that i had it on me. and after a wreck, have you really got your bearings? i did, but i'm in the auto business, i just happen to know to talk to the guy.

all in all, i got lucky.
