Good question. Most Christians do not even keep the seventh day sabbath, out of ignorance I hope, so it stands to reason they would be ignorant of this command as well. I think what was meant was that they should not be cooking, working, etc. Most would probably tell you the the law has been done away with, that it was nailed to the cross.
That argument drives me crazy, The only laws that where done away with were the laws given by Moses, blood ordinances, etc. The Ten Commandments are just as valid as they ever where. People just don't want to keep the 4th for some reason.

It is right and perfect; God states His commandments to obey them. The Christians and the protestant except the seventh day Adventist abolished the Sabbath day law as a day of rest. God said in the Torah, whosoever break the Sabbath day shall die. Jesus didn’t abolish the Law. Jesus commands to obey God’s Law tat He announced to Moses till heaven and disappear. Heaven and earth didn’t disappear yet. Matthew 5:17 to 20.

"While the Israelites were in the desert, a man was discovered gathering wood on the Sabbath day. Those who caught him at it brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly. But they kept him in custody, for there was no clear decision as to what should be done with him. Then the Lord said to Moses, "This man shall be put to death; let the whole community stone him outside the camp." So the whole community led him outside the camp and stoned him to death as the Lord had commanded Moses." Numbers 15:32-36 NAB

The New Testament overrode the Old. Orthodox Jews will still practice this. The laws of the old testament were dealt with by Jesus' new laws.

To whom was God speaking to when that commandment was made? Who were the parties to that covenant?

Christians were never a party to that covenant law; any of it. Why then would you want to reduce Christians to a life of rituals and useless practices that do nothing in regards to the heart?

While your at it, do you apply all 613 laws in your life? Not hardly.

Perhaps you are guilty of what Paul wrote, desiring to glory in other's flesh?

When Jesus, the Messiah, came he fulfilled that Mosaic Law so we are no longer under it.
