The wait from those countries is longer because according to the USCIS,the wait time is determined on the amount of activity in that country's counsalate.

The USCIS may make one wait a long time but at least one doesn't risk being left stranded in the desert to die.
I know a guy who is a Border Patrol in Texas,he tells me this happens more than once a day, only a few cases actually make the news.

They cannot afford it. here is what usually happens.
1) Family here pays for them to be smuggled in and/or
2) They pay part of it, then when they get here, they are literally held as slaves until they pay the coyote off. Why do you think sometimes when ICE holds a raid on a house, anything from 10-30+ are packed in there like sardines?
3) They pay part of fee and a relative is held hostage in their home country until they pay off the debt. Another control used.
USCIS in terms of fees is cheaper but the wait time is a bit*h. Say you fill out paperwork to come here legally from say Mexico or the Phillipines
To just get approval to apply for the green card average wait time for Mexico is anywhere from 6-19 years depending on the category the person falls in; for the
Philippines- avg 5-22 years.

The activityof the approval process etc is not done there in the Consulates. All applications come to the US. Once they are approved, they are sent back to the country of origin. What

From USCIS point of view, as DAR has mentioned there are practical reasons why they can not just let everyone immigrate here
From employer's point of view, the immigration process is horrendously inefficient (and that is to put it charitably). So even though the actual monetary cost may be same or even less than 4 grand, the time and effort spent to get someone here legally, costs far greater than that.
And we are not talking about professional workers, for whom employers can charge and make lot more money. These are merely uneducated, poor workers for entry level jobs. Though I strongly doubt if any 'employer' will be willing to pay money to get someone here illegally. Far too risky !!

You do have a good point, but if you cannot establish a relationship with a LEGAL immigrant and have no money, not many doors are open to you.
Also, many people are CRIMINALS or TERRORISTS and cannot immigrate the LEGAL way.
SO, we're stuck with the ILLEGAL invasion instead.
The price to do this LEGALLY is SMALL compared to the benefits one will accrue by being here legally immigrated. I do not understand how people who can LEGALLY immigrate here complain about the fees!
Service costs money, and the better service that USCIS wants to provide will cost even more. It's still a bargain.

Asian illegal immigration pay even more. It use to be $30,000, but I'm now hearing that it has gone up to over $50,000. I;m wondering how they would make that money back??? I'm not sure of the accuracy of $50,000 though. Of course I feel the $4,000 is on the cheap side for a simple border crossing. What scares me is alot of illegal immigrants pay for this through illegal activities like being mules(Running drugs) or taking part in gang activities (I heard it's common in Chinese illegal immigrants) It's pretty hard to make back the money hen you make $20,000 a year and have to send money home. Even if they DON'T pay taxes, it's still hard. Probably in the city, they have multiple jobs, but In the country, it's hard to find a second job.

The USA has a quota every year for legal immigrants to the USA from mexico every year. That is 20 000 people the americans bring in over from mexico legally.
I would say alot of people apply for immigration to the united states and just a fraction get in.
So with that in mind they'd rather get into the USA quickly instead of wait many years for the odd chance there immigration application might be accepted.

Because money isn't the only requirement for legal immigration. Not all are bad but there are many who couldn't pass a background check or physical. Many....even if they came legally wouldn't be accepted......or would be accepted but only for a limited time and then have to leave.
People act like every person who applies for citizenship gets it. They don't. Many are here for years and have families and are told no at the end.
Many come here because the easiest way is a temp one.....only to expect that once they are here......citizenship is a shoo in. Seems it's alot easier to get here than to get rid of people. Legal or otherwise. Just get here and your battle is 90% over.
From what I see it is cheaper to pay the legal fees than to pay for a smuggler. Once you're here though it seems there's a huge underground for you to able to get lost in the masses.....especially when there's no legal means to track you.
Kind of like the old saying...I just have to get my foot in the door. Then I'll win them over by hook or by crook.... or by crying racism or throwing children in your face or claiming we're only here to do the jobs Americans won't do......any excuse will do.

In most cases, they are not the ones paying the coyote. In addition, besides the long wait, most of these people know they would never pass the ICE screening process. The overwhelming majority did not graduate elementary school, they have no skills, and they don't speak English. So during their time in the US, they are more likely to burden our society versus contribute to it.

Because you have to go into a big process and qualify to be legal.
Not because you have a couple thousand bucks the govenment will give you the papers. Must be a purpose.
Also there are some ways to get it but is not easy. That's why US has so many illigal immigrants.
Hope this will help you... it shows you how to get a green card and what do you need to qualify.

Good question though.

Because they need to be here to pay back those $4000. They get that money from friends or family members then they come into the US and they have to pay that money back to whoever lent it to them. Plus the immigration process it alot more expensive then $4000. Its $1000. for just the petition to ask for someone if not more then after that you have to pay a lawyer and that is just the first step you dont get that back even if you are not approved. So what ends up happening. You spend more then $4000. and you dont even get to get in because you are denied. Why would you do?? Spend the $4000 and know that you are in for sure or spend $4000 or more and then be denied and lose the money that you still have to pay back?
