My boyfriend said he was told that he must stay in the army for another 4 years after his 8 year commission (due next year). And, rather than selecting his next unit, his follow up was already assigned.

I'm devastated, he's in Baghdad right now, and I don't want him to go for a 3rd tour, and I want him to leave army asap and start our normal civilian life.

Is this some new order to prevent losing more officers? Or did he make this up in order to stay?

Thanks,

Officers...after their initial commitment, go voluntary indefinite until they resign or are passed over 3 times for advancement. What does your boyfriend want to do?

Kind of need more details.

Officers have to request to leave the service. There is not a commitment like enlisted. You have to serve your time to pay off your college of course, but its not like a regular enlistment contract since we are indefinite.

You can be called back during the 8 years like enlisted. Also, if he had advance schooling, they can add time, same as paying for college. An example would be if he got a masters degree, he would have to stay in. Certain Army schools require this as well.

There is a stop loss on certain types of officers and the contract is not for 8 years it is for 8 years or the connivance of the service. He got caught and rather than lose the bonus he signed up for the full four years.

i'm in a similar concern. you're able to desire to ask your self whether you're prepared to installation. once you're pleased with a 300 and sixty 5 days long interruption then you definately ought to evaluate the army reserves. looking on what proportion hours you have you could prepare for an instantaneous fee or pass the OCS direction. i've got heard some say that OCS can take a jointly as to end. looking on what you get a masters is in, the army does have masters courses.
