I just reintalled vista premium and it takes up 26 GB.. i think that is too large//So i checked my c crive then ..2 files say windows.old(4.28GB) and windows.old.000 (11.9GB).... they are sopposed to exist? Can i delete them? is it possible that they are remained files because i did not completely cleaned my previous vista operating systems? Can i delete them?

These files have been created as a backup of your old operating system (probably XP).
I guess you installed Vista as an upgrade to XP, rather than a clean install of Vista. Had you done a clean install, these folders would not have been created.

To answer the question, yes, they are safe to delete.

Hi, u r right even Windows Vista doesn't take up that much room. I am not sure whether its safe to delete them but I am assuming that u upgraded from a previous version of Windows or that u have upgraded from another version of Vista to another. Why don't u go in ur add/remove programs list and see if u can find anything there or u may want to search for the problem on yahoo or google or maybe even at http://www.microsoft.com They may have some info on what u need to do.

The windows.old folders can be permanently deleted.

You may have to do this under administrator rights, but it can be done.

This should free up anything between 15-20gb.
