Can anyone can explain the difference between the Methodist church and Baptist?
I was wondering why my pastor ( Baptist) said that you can get saved in a Methodist church but not in any other church (besides Methodist &Baptist)? I was afraid to ask him why
I have a problem I have been praying about for a long time. I live in a very small town and attend a Baptist church. Lately I have found out some things about the people in the church which I think is crazy. The sunday school teacher on a weekly weekend drinking binge, the pastors wife repremending dressing in slacks not dresses, my kids coming home telling me they learned that Methodists are nuts and families leaving the church all the time I am not sure what to do. My kids & I are seeing all the wrong in the people at the church as well & it is really putting a toll on our family
We live 2hrs away from another church. I am so sad I do not know what to do!I love Jesus &want to worship on Sundays I am so confused.

I'm in the same boat, church was not even on the list when I decided to come here, and now the nearest one that's my own denomination, about 4 hours out.

Methodists baptize infants. Baptists don't. Both hold generally Arminian beliefs, although Baptists can vary. Methodists are liturgical, Baptists are autonomous. Both claim free will in getting saved, but many other faiths also believe this, I don't know why he singles out Methodists. I think you should ask him about that one. He's not God, he's human, with a degree, not a halo.

The Sunday school teacher sins. The pastor's wife isn't necessarily correct. Everyone says what they want, and nobody is any more worthy of Heaven than you are. Sounds like a normal church to me. Keep your beliefs, love the Lord, be a Sunday school teacher yourself if you want. Ask the pastor the tough questions, if he's got the degree, he should be able to give you reasonable answers. Define your own beliefs, let the iron sharpen the iron, study God's word, and make your life better by leaving if necessary. Your call, not anybody else's.

I, too, am a Baptist. It's sad that you live so far away from another church. If I were in your shoes I would not attend services at a church that didn't live by the Bible's teachings. I would rather worship in my own way then to let my children be taught things I did not believe in. Is it possible to start a Bible study group in your home? You can get literature that will tell you what each week's lesson is. Then you would know what the children are learning. There must be others that are equally uncomfortable about your church/ pastor/ teachers/ etc. that you could invite in. Maybe go to their house every other week. You do not have to attend church to love and serve the Lord. You can buy Christian tapes and music, too. God will lead you.

Born into a Methodist family and Christened. Now I go to a Baptist Church where infant Baptism is not practiced.
Your church sounds like it has a bad leadership problem. One may be saved wherever God is - there are good and bad churches and good and bad Christians just as there are good and bad atheists. You are hungry for the Truth - ask God to show you where to go. If you want to take this off YA then email me - I simply can't believe there is no church closer than 2 hours away. You just haven't found it. Time is getting very short. Act now and get out - He will show you where to go.

I am not positive but I believe Baptist and Methodist both baptize you by dunking you in water..i believe all the rest just anoint you with water..personally I read the Bible and pray on all the issues between churches..If you are truly not happy at your church then hold your own service at home or watch one of the televised ones and then discuss the topic with your family..Attending a church that is set in confusion will not bring you closer to God..Good luck to you!

start a home church invite friends in. if there is so much wrong in the local church stop going or apply for a new pastor. there is not to much deference between Methodist and baptist. all christian denominations should teach the same we are all sinners and all need Jesus.
my parents were Methodist preachers but after my mother died we attended a baptist church I was married in a baptist church to a catholic and confirmed in an Anglican church. the only denomination I have trouble understanding is catholic and I have been to many of their servises including my sons first comuinion it terned him agnopstic after that.

Of course you're confused. Your "pastor" is a loon.
