My little brother is a priest. Lemme tell ya about his week.

On Mondays he gets up at 5:00AM and does what we all do when we first get up. But he adds several minutes of prayer which not all do.
At 6:00AM he enters the church and prepares for the first Mass. He celebrates that Mass at 6:30AM. Afterward he stands around greeting those who came and answering any questions they may have. He goes into his office and spends whatever time is needed handling his correspondence. If there are morning appointments with parishioners he meets with them. Once a week he meets with the finance council on budgetary matters.
Around noon he gets to have lunch. Then the afternoons are spent visiting the sick and the homebound. In the evening he usually has at least one meeting with other clerics in the community. If he's lucky he gets to bed around 11PM.

Tuesday is his day off...right after he celebrates the Mass, greets parishioners, etc. He can usually get away by 8:30AM.

Wednesday (see Monday, but add staff meeting).

Thursday (see Monday, but add confessions).

Friday (see Monday, but another Mass (for the children at the parish school) and add St. Vincent dePaul Services).

Saturday (see Monday, but add baptisms, weddings, quinceaneros celebrations over which he presides and the Saturday afternoon Mass).

Sunday he gets busy. There are 7 Masses to be celebrated, three of them in Spanish and he has only one assistant pastor.

Many evenings he teaches courses in Bible study, in Church history, in soteriology.

He must also make regular visits to the school during classtime.

On his vacation (3 weeks a year of which he has never taken more than 2), he spends one week on retreat at a monastery and the other learning better ways to assist his flock in their spiritual growth.

In his "off time" he goes to the bathroom.

Occasionally he even gets to sleep at night instead of being called to a dying person's bedside to administer Annointing of the Sick.

His days usually last 17 to 18 hours and he's on the go for every one of them. And he does this for less than a secretary earns.

Oh, and he's expected to take from that stipend and give a portion to the poor of the parish....as an example for others.

Wanna join him? Got the gumption?

A priest works many hours every day, 7 days a week and is on call 24/7. His day typically starts before 8:00 AM and typically ends in the late evening, with meetings, appointments, etc. He never knows when he will have to go out in the middle of the night to the emergency room to be with the family of someone who has been in an accident. He typically gets 1 week vacation a year.

It relies upon on the denomination of the priest. In Australia a Roman Catholic Priest is supplied with unfastened lodging and foodstuff. On acceptable of this they receive a small stipend of roughly $11000 in line with 3 hundred and sixty 5 days so as that they are in a position to offer for inner maximum products, shop for holiday trips etc. An Anglican Priest could be oftentimes supplied with an area of abode for which they could pay a subsidsed hire. They pay for their very own foodstuff etc. as a consequence they are paid a income closer (yet nonetheless below) the extensive-unfold workers income. presently approximately $47000 - that's no longer lots once you think approximately maximum Anglican clergymen are married and characteristic toddlers.

It's an awesome responsibility....

I'm on-call 24/7 - but there is still downtime for prayer, study, relaxation, golf....

But - when I'm called to provide counsel and the Sacraments...it's prety much 24/7...

Sundays are actually pretty cool. Mass isn't until 11:15 and I get up at 4:30!!

Are you kidding? Weddings, confession, visiting hospitals to administer the "Annointing of the Sick" or the last rites, etc.: Priests are so busy that they never have a moment's peace.
