I want to become a politician after I retire from the U.S. Army. I'm going to go to college and I need to know what type of class should I take. I'm going to be in ROTC in college aswell. I'm planning on retiring from the army as a general. So, I'm going to be in the army as an officer for a long time. Then after I retire I want to be involved in politics. So, what degree and class should I probably take? Thanks! Serious, detailed answers are appreciated.

Don't let people step on your dreams...

You will never make General unless you try and that means applying yourself 100% to the job.

The military rewards hard work with advancement, training and education. If I were you, I would concentrate on classes that would support my intended line of work in the military so I can succeed early in my career. You can take courses throughout your military career to prepare for a political life afterward.

Good luck!

g-day!

LOL, youre planning on becoming a General? do you even know how hard it is to become one? its still hard to become even a Colonel, let alone a General officer. anyway, if you like politics then you should go for political science degree of some kind. and if you want to be involved in politics then a law degree wouldnt hurt either. if youre going to try to become any type of senior officer youre going to need to get at least a doctorate's. almost no officer makes it past Captain (0-3) without at least a master's degree. and if you want to be a General then youre going to have to be the very best at what you do. there will be other extremely intelligent and dedicated men and women that youll have to compete with for promotion. good luck man.

1%, if that, make it to the rank of general.

I really dont think your degree will matter. After more then 20 years if you want to be a general, its your post-grad you need to look at. You under-grad wont matter too much.

To correct a previous poster.... Powell graduated from ROTC. West Point doesn't matter like it used to.

you won't make it to general without going to west point.

and if you're asking people on yahoo answers, you might not make it to second lieutenant.
