Good for you in reaching out to us. Depression can wreck havoc on everything in your life such as school, work, relationships as you are experiencing. Maybe part of your school problems are due to depression. I am a very successful single mom and salesperson, but when depression hits I can't even figure a way to organize my pocket book or even think straight for more than 5 minutes. beating yourself up too is the depression "talking". It's as real an illness as cancer, heart disease and untreated can be fatal(suicide). You're not a loser, you're a child of God experiencing illness. Suicidal thoughts although scary are part and parcel of the disease. You never think you're going to get better so why live? Medication (which I'm on for life as I've had 2 major depressions) and talk therapy will help tremendously. You are suffering too much not to take advantage of all the wonderful ways to get better out there. be patient(definitely not easy to say for me), suicide is a major decision that can only be make when you aree 100% well(trust me then you will say, "how could I have thought that!!") You don't want to die, just feel better. God bless and I'll pray for you.

You know what the problem is better than anyone of us on this sight does, and it sounds to me like for 20 minutes a day you know that you are the problem, you need help but you won't find all the help you need on this sight with 1 question! Grow up you can't be a baby all your life, I think you are spoiled and fail in school to get attention and are probably a loner too!

Okay, first of all, depression is NOT a fact of life. It is a disease that can be treated and healed. You are very brave to talk about it in this forum. You will need help from a mental health professional. There is not necessarily a specific reason that you are depressed. It just happens to a lot of people. I give you credit for sticking to wanting to graduate. Please talk with your parents and tell them you are going to need help with this. The library will have Bev Cobain's book, WHEN NOTHING MATTERS ANYMORE. It will help you to understand what is happening to you and give you ideas for treatment. Best of luck to you.

Depression is one of the hardest things I had do deal with in my life. The first thing is excepting that you have it and that you need help. The next thing is tell yourself that you are going to be able to get help and get better. It sounds like you and your parents don't talk much.I think for starters you need to say mom and dad I really need to talk, tell them what is going on and how you feel. Also tell them that sometimes you feel like killing yourself. This is a really serious thing.Tell them that you want to talk to the Doctor and get some help.If your parents don't listen you need to talk to like a school counselor or teacher and they may be able to talk to your parents.Whatever you do don't keep it in and not talk to anyone. Also don't be so hard on yourself everyone makes mistakes in school or whatever it is, but we learn from them. Please just talk to someone teacher, counselor, parents. I have suffered fro depression before and I always thought it wouldn't get any better but it has.Depression is a chemical imbalance and with meds and some counseling is very curable.TAKE CARE AND GOOD LUCK!!

Tell yourself, for me to overcome depression, i need to:-

determine whether the depression is situation specific (related to a current situation in my life) or chronic (a part of my behavior for a long period of time).

identify the causes of my depression.

change my irrational thinking and develop a more realistic perspective.

accept that anger is the basis for my depression, and make a concerted effort to do anger work-out sessions daily to lessen its impact.

realize that depression is a fact of life, that it accompanies loss, grief, and even success.

find a place in my life for relaxation efforts such as self-hypnosis, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation.

use visual imagery to see my life without depression and put my energy into the pursuit of a positive goal.

develop a crisis prevention, time management, and catastrophic intervention plan of action.

develop a balanced lifestyle with good nutrition, a balanced diet, aerobic exercise, adequate sleep and stress reduction.

work at self-esteem enhancement, self-affirmation, self-reinforcement.

commit myself to a specific plan of action to overcome my depression.
