First of all, ask your friend what the unit is.

You have to find out what unit the soldier is in. The address is usually the unit followed by an APO AE code (basically a zip code).

The more specific detail you have in the unit, the better the chance of finding him.

I knew a guy who got a letter addressed US Army, Korea. It took 9 months to find him, but it got there.

If you have something like this:

1st Platoon, A Company,
1-1 Infrantry, 1st Division
APO AE XXXXX

If you look online for the units Family Support Group, they probably have the address to use as well.

If you don't have the address, try going to your friend's unit's webpage and locating the chaplain or someone who deals with family (In the Marines this is the RBE and/or the KVN)

Also check with your friends family if you can, they most likely have the address.

If you send a package you will need to ship it directly from a post office and you will need a customs form. You can get the form at the office or online. You will want to use a flat rate priority mail box unless you are shipping very light items. Those are free and can be ordered together with the forms online at usps.com

Read the mail regulations carefully. No liquids. If you want to speed the package along write "certified to be a bone fide gift intended for the sole use of a servicemember and to contain NO pork or pork byproducts" in the comments section. Don't bend the rules, they will literally blow up your package if they think it is dangerous. Also pack as if King Kong was going to drop kick your package off the back of a truck - cause that is exactly what will happen.
