CHRISTIANS: Since you are easily "offended" (your word) by the questions posed by atheists...?

Are you aware that being told "God Bless You", being told you will you are going to Hell, viewing a cross with a dead person on it in plain view, viewing a TV ad that promotes a religion, being required to put my hand on the Holy Bible in court, saying the pledge of allegiance with the words "under God", spending money that say "in God we trust" on it, listening to a college lecture given by a Nun (in her habit), walking passed numerous churches every day, being taught Intelligent Design in school, listening to evangelists on TV speaking of Jesus, hearing George Bush refer to God, hearing Falwell say that 9/11 was God giving us "what we deserved", and more, and more, and more.... is offensive to me?

I didn't realize I could lock myself in my room all day with the TV and radio off to avoid being offended. Thank you. You Christians are so intelligent and thoughtful to me and I really appreciate it.

I am not offended by you or anyone that says anything against Christianity.
Because I think there are more important things to be offended by and I don't really concern myself with what you think or believe.
But you seem to obsess on Christianity which I find really weird.
I would never in a million years think to obsess over Atheism and your beliefs so why do you Atheists obsess over Christians?
Are you aware that America was founded on Christian Principles and the Holy Bible was the foundation for our laws and Government?
That's why we're One Nation Under God instead of an Atheist Nation.
If you want an Atheist Nation with Atheist principles, Laws and Government then why don't you leave and go start one?
In America we have freedom of religion and are free to worship however we want.
But that's something that Atheists despise about living here because they can't change what they don't like about it.
I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who feel the same about living here due to the fact that certain steps were taken to insure everyones freedoms and liberties.
I for one am glad I was born and raised in America which has been United and Blessed by God.
We owe a big debt of gratitude to our founding fathers for helping us achieve this great and wonderful Nation.

There is nothing anyone can do about all the churches.

I am sorry if I have offended you by saying that I love God.
I do answer questions here, but that is part of my right as a citizen. It seems rather unfair that you would want me to not say a word about my faith because it offends you.


I try to not say "God bless you" to anyone who is not a Christian. I say, "Have a happy day" or something.

I'm sorry I cannot help you with money, the pledge, etc.
Ignore the words on the money. Leave off "Under God" when you say the pledge, or refuse to say it.
Do you want to get rid of all Christians so you won't have to look at them?
I can't help with that, either. Do you hate us all so much that you want us to leave? Do you want to leave?
Part of life is that you have to be around people with whom you disagree sometimes, both at work and at school.

This country has freedom of speech, so it will never come about that the word "God" will be forbidden to be spoken.


Truly, the only thing that hurts me is when an atheist tells me I am stupid, an idiot, a moron, and that I deserve to die because I am a Christian.

well you must be offended to ask such a question. Falwell's statement is no different from an atheist saying "your a closed mined person to believe in something you can not see". it's all the same. both Falwell and you are misinformed. either you learn more about the christian faith or stop complaining and mind your own business. I'm sure you have other things to do with your time than to bash other people's personal beliefs. may be you should do some self reflecting.

I have been called for jury duty, and we were NOT required to put our hand on the bible. We just had to hold up our right hand, and affirm under penalty of perjury to tell the truth.

What public schools are teaching ID ? I know there is a push for that, but was the push successful ?

I dislike when church merges with state, and a few of the things you found "offensive" fall in that category, much of what you find "offensive" is other people practicing their first amendment freedom of speech and religion.

I'm not a Christian, but I think that quite a bit of what you say is simpley taking offense because you wish to do so.

If a person wearing a cross is offensive, that's your problem. If walking past a church is offensive, that's your problem. Likewise being offended by an advertisement or other such.

If you choose to attend a school where a nun teaches a college class, and are offended because she is religious, that is your problem. You can choose to be offended or not.

On the other hand, being required to swear on a Bible shows ignorance of the party requiring the swearing. I would simply tell them that they are asking me to swear an oath on a book that means nothing to me. With little meaning in the book, an oath on it means little as well.

I do despise displays of the ten commandments in court rooms. The inform anyone of any religion that they shall be judged based on the tenets of a single religion; in my case a religion that has killed many of my own faith as well as ancestors. Comforting, isn't it, to know that the same might hold themselves in judgment of me?

Falwell and his ilk are idiots and show Christianity to be what it is. Blaming the destruction of the WTC on homosexuals is astounding ignorance.

ID should not be taught in schools. It is a religious hypothesis that does not meet the tests required of a theory.

George Bush speaking his own faith is not a problem for me. If he imposes his religious beliefs on others, that is. Using his faith to demean another bothers me as well. His statement that Wicca shouldn't be permitted in the military was a problem as well.

Being accosted by Christians and told that my religion is somehow deficient bothers me. This happens fairly frequently. I don't mind, at times, discussing religion with such, but hearing someone yell, as I'm walking into a store, "Jesus is better", with somebodies finger pointing at my jewelry sort of stinks.

I'm all for religious tolerance. I don't mind churches, and I don't mind religious people. I don't mind nuns wearing their habits or priests in their collars. I don't mind people wearing religious jewelry. What I mind; what bothers me greatly is people who wish to impose their religion, or their religion's rules on a society which does not welcome them.

Point well taken. Thank you for sharing your views. I will say I've learned to say "Best to You" , I can turn channels of shows I find offensive and do, and Farwell is wrong anyway. Also, my Dad is a deacon and church does not allow swearing on the Bible, like in court. So there is something else you can do or say instead of using Bible. In my dad's case it is because Bible shouldn't be an object to swear on- I think he says "I affirm" or something. My point is: I think atheists and christians have both been offended at some point in their lives. Best to you!!!!!

I'm personally not offended by questions posed by atheists or anyone else, they usually make me think, but that's it. You can choose to be offended or you can choose to not be offended. Becoming offended by something only impedes your understanding of it. I say bless you or God bless you when someone sneezes - not as an attempt to force my religion on them, but out of courtesy. Not all Christians agree with what the loudest speakers say. But I am not responsible for the delicateness of your sensibilities. In this country we have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. You don't have to like it or agree with it, but respecting and tolerating it is simply the adult thing to do. If you don't like it, nothing says you have to stay here.

Atheists don't offend me. I love freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Doesn't seem like you do though.

And you are NOT required to put your hand on The Holy Bible in court. You are NOT required to say "under God" in the Pledge. I have never told anyone they are going to Hell. Don't listen to people if you don't like what they are saying. Don't look at someone if you don't like what they are wearing. Don't EVER think you have the right to say there should be no churches.

Wow, did you lose the remote to your TV, or is this rant an exercise to make atheists look less intelligent?

If you can not figure out how to select programs on your TV that do not offend you, then you should probably seek some sort of mental treatment.
