Would you say money is worth to go and work at a California State Prison? How it is the environment in the inside for Correctional Officers? I am planning on transfering from the County Sheriffs department to the State Prison, would that be a good idea just for money or not? I currently work in investigations. Thank You.

STAY WITH INVESTIGATIONS--ESPECIALLY WITH A SHERIFF DEPT AND IN CALIFORNIA--THE PRISONS ARE RUN BY A GANG AT EACH INSTITUTION AND A FRIEND WITH WHOM I HAVE KNOWN FOR 15 YEARS LEFT 5 YEARS AGO TO GO TO CAL.-SHE SAYS THAT THEY ARE ON TOTAL LOCK DOWN 24-7 BECAUSE OF GANG TURF RIVALRY VIOLENCE--THEY EAT IN THEIR CELLS AND ARE ALLOWED OUT ONLY 45 MIN A DAY CELL BY CELL--ONE PRISON HAS OVER 6500 INMATES--TOO MUCH FOR ME-I WORK IN A PRISON WITH 1535 AND THAT IS ENOUGH FOR NOW

I don't know why it would be a first choice for someone if something else is available. You can get a first-hand idea by watching "Lockup" that appears on cable MSNBC.

That shows reveals the dangers that officers routinely face. There was one gang that was into killing officers and then sometimes they throw bodily secretions in addition to stabbing, ect. They can trick you by hiding handcuff keys, they get out and in a flash you're attacked.

All a prisoner has to do is stick you with a needle and you're dead.

Think about that.

No pay is high enough to work in a prison.
