I take note of them, look at them and realize that the changes I see reflect the changes in me, my body, my life, the seasons, and I feel s certain amount of both comfort and awe when I look at Her. It is remarkable that a woman's cycles are the same, roughly, as the cycles of Lady Luna.

I don't so much think of me as marking the phases of the moon as I think about Her marking ME, reminding me of the ceaseless passage of time, but reminding me gently, and smiling in Her crescent, swelling to full glory, and fading into the night, reminding me again that I too swell, live, burst in light and life, and fade back to dark.

Blessings, in our Lady Luna!

The phases of the moon dictate to many, what sorts of magick might be practiced. Some hold celebrations at the full moon as well. To celebrate each quarter though is not typical.

As a side question, I'm wondering how long it took individuals to recognize the phase of the moon by looking at it. Just glancing upward, can you tell if the moon is waxing or waning?

No, not all of the phases of the moon. I do observe new moon and full moon - for specific reasons. I also use the moons to mark planting and harvests and to observe the changing of the seasons themselves (as most seasons changed on full moons - what we have today is from scientists observing the actual placement of the moon and sun in relation to the earth itself) Ancient pagans didn't have calendars to rely on to know that the 21st-23rd of Sept is the Fall Equinox... they observed the full moon for that... same with all of the other seasons.

I use the moon phases for practical reasons such as planting of specific crops and to determine tide strengtth for fishing. Etc.. I do appreciate the bounty that being in tune with the phase and distance from the earth can bring.

Nothing much, just adoring its beauty whenever I get the chance to watch. Othewise I just make a note of it.

My favorite phase is the tiny sliver 2 days after the new moon.
