There is no scriptural basis for one to believe in the trinity. If it were a Christian requirement, why didn't Jesus say that God was triune and that he was the second person of the trinity? To the contrary, Jesus did not say that God was composed of 3 divine persons. Instead, he said that his Father was the ONLY true God. (John 17:3)
Why do people believe in the trinity? Well, why do people believe that native Americans are called Indians when they did not come from India? The answer is: We have been taught to believe in a certain way for so long that we actually believe it, no matter how off-base it sounds.
To illustrate how the trinity has confused people, Char above said: "A Christian believes Christ is God and that the spirit of God is within Jesus and himself." In defense of the trinity, Char says that Christ is God. If that is the case, WHERE is the trinity? The trinity says that God is composed of THREE "persons." But according to Char, Christ alone is God. That is NOT the trinity.
The trinity is a confusing doctrine, and it has its believers confused.
Dusty Scribe said: "The Trinitarian Doctrine is a fundamental belief of the Christian Church. Those who claim to be Christians, yet deny the Trinity, have bought into a heretical belief system that is not the historic Christian faith."
If what he said is true, then why do so many Catholic and Protestant reference sources say the trinity is NOT a Bible teaching? Consider:
The Illustrated Bible Dictionary records: "The word Trinity is not found in the Bible. . . It did not find a place formally in the theology of the church till the 4th century."
The New Catholic Encyclopedia admits that the Trinity "is not. . . directly and immediately the word of God."
The Encyclopedia of Religion And Ethics records: At first the Christian Faith was not Trinitarian. . . It was not so in the apostolic and sub-apostolic ages, as reflected in the New Testament and other early Christian writings."
L. L. Paine, professor of Ecclesiastical History acknowledged: "The Old Testament is strictly monotheistic. God is a single personal being. The idea that a trinity is to be found there . . . is utterly without foundation."
The Encyclopedia of Religion admits: "Theologians today are in agreement that the Hebrew Bible does not contain a doctrine of the Trinity."
The New Catholic Encyclopedia also admits: "The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is not taught in the Old Testament."
Jesuit Edmund Fortman wrote in his book, The Triune God: ". . . There is no evidence that any sacred writer even suspected the existence of a Trinity within the Godhead. . . Even to see in the Old Testament suggestions or foreshadowings or 'veiled signs' of the trinity of persons, is to go beyond the words and intent of the sacred writers."
The Encyclopedia of Religion says: "Theologians agree that the New Testament also does not contain an explicit doctrine of the Trinity."
The New Encyclopedia Britannica reports: "Neither the word Trinity nor the explicit doctrine appears in the New Testament."
The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology confirms: "The New Testament does not contain the developed doctrine of the Trinity."

Jehovah God is God alone no other Gods.Michael the Archangel is the one that he used for the spirit to concieve Mary. The highest angel was used to turn to flesh to give us humans a second chance. He died on a torture stake which others call a crass. That was Jehovah's son Jesus. He prayed and had help thru his fathers Holy Spirit which is the Active Force. That was the only way Jesus could perform miracles.Jesus also states in the Bible where the Father is greater than I am.Once Jesus was resurrected he is at the right Hand of Jehovah God.They are three seperate things not 3 in one.Trinity is where they bekieve all 3 are the same, and its not.In the beginning Jehovah is talking his Angels.

Most defenders of the trinity use some coined phrase that makes no sense at all. If they try to put it into their own words, they come out sounding like Char, all over the place and making no sense at all again. (Sorry Char.)
I don't understand why believers can't see the correlation between what happened when Christendom became a state religion under Emperor Constantine incorporating the pagan masses and their doctrines. Has Satan blinded their minds that much?
Edit : Jackie L: So God called out to himself to save himself while on the stake?

I was raised in the Lutheran church from the day I was born; and school from 1st grade on. I was taught the trinity from day one, however, I could never understand it. Something just didn't make sense about it. There was no scriptural evidence given in the teaching of the trinity, be it in Luther's Catechism, the Lutheran hymnal or during sunday sermon. I began searching and for several years, wandered from one denomination to another. Still, no scriptural evidence. Jehovah knows his sheep, and his sheep know him. Please consider Jesus instruction when he taught the model prayer at Mt. 6:9, or Jesus words at John 14:28, 20:17. In the latter, Jesus didn't say "I am assending to myself" but rather " I am assending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God." This lost sheep was found about 5 yrs ago, and doesn't need to look any longer.

Dusty Scribe - So basically (Dusty Scribe) you are saying that because the ministers (man) says it's right, and that if you don't believe it then you aren't Christian, that's why it's right?
You just made Bambi's point:
That the trinity is not only un-biblical (and Jesus never taught it), but that it doesn't even say in the bible that non believers of the Trinity will not inherit the kingdom of God.
You are typically doing what most "Christians" do nowadays; follow man instead of the word of God.
Jackie L - As much as non-Trinitarians appreciate you not condemning them to hell, I don't think that is actually an answer to this question.
Your argument can be turned around. Which is more loving? To die yourself to show your love...OR...to send your only son to suffer and show your love? Which would be the hardest to do, allow yourself to suffer, or your only son? I don't know about you, but if I were to see someone whom I really love about to die, it would be much easier for me to die in their place instead of watching them suffer. God did an amazingly hard thing to do, He sent His SON as a ransom for us.
God loves us MORE if you teach that He sent His SON to die for us.

I wouldn't call a non-trinitarian "not Christian" however, the non-trinitarian view doesn't present the same God I worship.
The Trinity provides the underpinning of the entire message of salvation. See, if we take, say the subordinationist view, God doesn't love us enough to sacrifice Himself, rather He created a subject to sacrifice for us. In the Trinitarian view, God in the Person of Jesus, made the decision to sacrifice Himself out of His love for us----in fact God, who had created us in the image of God, became like us to save us. Or take the Modalist view point. In creation we were created in God's image (God using the plural forms of "us" and "our"). As Genesis 2 shows part of that creation is needing companionship, or more formally community.

I take exception to your blanket statement, putting all "Trinitarians" in the same basket.
It doesn't take an understanding of the trinity to be saved; it takes an understanding of, and belief in, the gospel.
Does this then make me a "non-Trinitarian"???
