Does vanity and pride mean the same thing? I've always heard the expression "Pride comes before a fall".

How about an intro? I once had a friend who was so stuck up that he drowned when it rained. He went around with his nose stuck so far up in the air that he constantly got lost because he couldn't see where he was going. That's not precisely vanity, but you get the point. By the way, I believe the correct quote is "Pride goeth before the fall." You might want to point out that most people who do things they can be proud of are usually pretty humble about it, so there is deserved pride (an actual accomplishment), and undeserved pride (do you know who my parents are?). An accident of birth is not your accomplishment; it may be your parents' mistake.
