I think that this topic is very controversial. I believe abortion is murder. However, there are time when it is necessary. Like if it is going to kill the mother or both mother and baby will not live. But to kill a child just because the parents(not just the mother) were stupid and not responsible is murder and it is wrong. I believe that it should only be allowed for a very small set reasons. But I don't believe it will ever really be censored.
God Bless

The reason counseling is on the table is because a fetus, at the time of a legal abortion, is not a living person. There is a very good reason there is a limited time a woman can get an abortion, and that is to prevent late-pregnancy abortions, which is what we hear about when studies say the fetus can feel pain.

It wasn't THAT long ago that abortions were illegal - ask your mom or grand mom what punishments were for illegal abortions. And while your asking these questions, ask what happened to the women who were forced into "back alley abortions".
The wealthy could generally find a doctor to take care of the "problem" and any follow-up care that was required. The less fortunate women were forced to try to terminate on their own, or find a "back alley" abortionist.
Remember, women died from infections, punctured wounds that caused women to bleed to death, the risk of never being able to have children in the future, etc . . . all because some people didn't believe abortion is a right all women should have (control over their bodies).
You could say Pro-Lifers believe the death sentence is a fine punishment for women having abortions ---- Now that's real "pro-life", isn't it???

Good question. Do you know that there have been more abortions performed during the Bush presidency than during the Clinton presidency?
I personally am against abortion. But I don't think we decrease the number of abortions by making it illegal. Like you said, women (many of them young and desperate) are still going to have abortions.
There has to be more done to stop unwanted pregnancies. And there should be increased tax breaks for those who adopt, especially if they adopt kids with special needs.
Education and compassion are the answer to this and many other problems we face. Punishment by the government is not.

I really think that certain segments of the religious right polarize around lowest common denominators such as race, abortion, and other issues because they are fairly cut and dry with which to channel their collective hate. If you look at the later part of the last US presidential election it is clear that the republicans reached out to these groups in a last minute attempt for votes. Just watch the video "Right America feeling Wronged" by Alex Pelosi and you will see examples of that. Roe vs Wade will never be overturned since that would just create a massive black market of back alley abortion sweat shops that would just cripple the nation's health care system on a pandemic level unprecedented in social medical history.

Do any of you really know the emotional suffering a person who aborts a child goes through. Obviously not.
When I see Pro-lifers outside clinics harassing these women, all I think is how self obsessed and immoral they really are.
Two faced bigots, who preach love and demonstrate hate.
The real crime isn't the woman getting the abortion, it is those that condemn Her.
Christians talk of Hell, well I hope that is where Pro-lifers go, they deserve no better.

Nobody on the pro-choice side of the fence actually understands the abortion issue. The abortion issue has nothing to do with the sanctity of life or anything else that sounds so noble .The abortion issue is about sex .The people who oppose abortion do not approve of the sex that caused it to be neccessary in the first place. In the cruel tradition of extremist American Protestantism , the mother is punished for her sins by having to keep and let all the world see her.child.

I agree with the person who said this issue is about sex and control of same. IMO a lot of the reason many ppl who oppose abortion are wishy-washy on the penalty for the woman is that they feel that gestation and the knowledge of the sex that resulted in it is enough "shame and punishment" for the woman. That's why they only want to punish the doctors, because the women who are forced to gestate have a "built in punishment" for sex.

How about imposing a sentence on the MAN who impregnated the woman in the first place?
If she hadn't been impregnated, there would be no need for an abortion.

I think it should be illegal with exceptions. I dont think it ever will be though. I just think people that go around having sex without protection need some sort of consequences for their actions, and I do believe abortion is murder. On the other hand a lot of children would be born into poverty and abuse.
I'm still against it- punishment? hm, counseling i suppose.
