I used to take them. The problem was, that antihistamines were not very effective. I finally got allergy desensitation shots. Now I don't even need the antihistamines anymore. However, it may take over two years for the allergy shots to start helping.

I take antihistamines but some days my symptoms are not as bad so i can manage without them, as for taking them for the rest of my life i really don't know i just take things year by year and hope the next year will be better, i do have to mention that Lydia is not lying at the moment there is a course of antihistamine injections that can be administered ( I don't know the name of them yet) they are not available in my area on the nhs yet, but might be next year, my nurse told me about them and our friend in Norway has just had them, i have been told that you have these injections for about 3-6 months and you won't need antihistamines again, so i will be trying them next year if my nurse can get me on the program, and i should not have to take antihistamines again, so i do think you owe Lydia an apology for calling her a liar.

I used to suffer from hayfever and took antihistamines, but I don't need them now.

Depends on the person.

NO! I suffer from very bad bad bad hayfever, I have it all year round. Next year they are bringing out an injection that you can have that prevents you from having hayfever again! It doesnt mean you wont sneeze for the rest of your life, but when you are near flowers etc you wont sneeze at all :)

Lydia is absolutely right. My brother get injections every year and he gets it around march time and it helps him big time. He uses antihistamines occasionally along with a nasal spray. Not sure what they are called.though.

I am not sure, but I think it depends on where you live and what type of things you are allergic to. It would get worse or better accordingly.
