I'd suggest staying out of it.
And contrary to the claim above, abortion does not necessary kill innocent children. Saying it over and over again does not make it true, Eartha, and it does make people question your honesty. Someday you're going to regret having trashed your reputation.

If you personally oppose abortion but don't want to be in the middle of the fight, just say so. I debate abortion all the time on the pro-choice side and there are plenty of ppl who oppose abortion but don't want to make it illegal or even get into the "fighting" over it. You need to go with what you believe, and don't give in to either side's pressure.

You ARE in a tough spot, and You have my sympathy. The battle is a hot one at any age group, and You and Your friends are at a particularly passionate age.
However it IS possible to hold a passionate conviction without trying (or even WANTING) to ram it down another person's throat. Try telling Your friends You are pro-peace.
LOL! Except for the question that heads this entry, the word "abortion" does not appear. Odd how we all just know that "pro-life" means anti-abortion.

You can only do what the rest of us do: Rely on your conscience.
Procreation is an ongoing process which can be interrupted at any point, right from not having sex in the first place, through contraception, and drugs which prevent implantation, to abortion anywhere up to the moment of birth.
Somewhere along that process, most people would have a point where they consider it's OK to interfere to prevent the birth of a baby up to that point, but not afterwards - e.g. abstinence is OK, but contraception isn't.... or contraception is OK, but abortion isn't... or abortion is OK but only up to week 20... or whatever. It's simply a matter of conscience where you personally decide to draw the line, and on what basis.
For myself, I cannot accept that an undifferentiated bunch of cells has more rights than the fully grown adults who are responsible for its existence. I also cannot accept that it's right to kill a foetus when it's fully developed and due to be born. Logically then, there has to be a point somewhere in between that I decide, on the basis of conscience, is the point at which abortion becomes unacceptable. I don't know enough about it to have a definite view where that point lies, but it must lie somewhere in the 9 months of pregnancy.
It's in the nature of life that there are no easy answers to this kind of question, as it's a matter of subjective opinion rather than objective fact - and my opinion is that abortion cannot be wrong, per se.
Oh, and it's pointless to argue about whether the embryo is 'human life' or not - Of course it is. That is not the issue. The issue is whether a human life at a stage of being a tiny featureless blob of cells should be protected at the expense of the wishes of the parents - and particularly the woman who would have to give birth to it. I don't think it should.

first of all: the bible itself gives instructions for how to perform an abortion (numbers 5: 12-31). anyone who claims to oppose abortion on biblical grounds is either very confused or else a hypocrite.
secondly: by what right do your friends (of either side) expect you to share their beliefs and prejudices? everybody has both the right and the duty to make up their own mind regarding ethical issues. only you will have to live with the consequences of any action you take, or any belief you subscribe to, so it is only you who have the right to elect for your own beliefs.
and of course the only person whose wishes should ever be consulted regarding an abortion are the mother's. she is the only person who needs to deal with the results of her choice.
personally i am both pro-life and pro-choice. i believe abortion is nearly always a bad choice, but i also believe it is a bad choice that people who feel differently from me must be allowed to make for themselves if they need to.

Pro-life, pro-choice! What does that really mean? Are you saying that imperfect humans deserve the right to choose whether or not to end someone’s life, even if it is as small as an embryo or a fetus? What did the embryo or fetus do to deserve such a fate? Is it the fetus fault that you got pregnant because you are too young, or because of bad planning? What exactly did that fetus inside the womb do to cause one to want to end the life of it?
People think that you can do anything and just be forgiven for it. Action must be taken in order to receive that forgiveness. Is that true? Should you and I, yes should two imperfect people decide the life of a fetus/embryo? Or, is there another source we can turn to as to make a sound decision? Let’s see.
First, this subject is a sensitive one; a debate that is still plaguing the political and social systems. However, there is a view that is more important than the world’s view. What is it? It is Jehovah God’s view of the matter. The scriptures does not leave a person in any doubt as to God’s viewpoint regarding the life of an unborn child. Properly viewed, the fruitage of the womb is a blessing from Jehovah God.
Psalm 127:3 says, “Look! Sons are an inheritance from Jehovah; The fruitage of the belly is a reward.” The Bible shows that the Creator himself is lovingly aware of the developing human embryo or fetus.
Psalm 139:13-16 says, “For you yourself produced my kidneys; You kept me screened off in the belly of my mother. I shall laud you because in a fear-inspiring way I am wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, As my soul is very well aware. My bones were not hidden from you When I was made in secret, When I was woven in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw even the embryo of me, And in your book all its parts were down in writing, As regards the days when they were formed And there was not yet one among them.” This was the Psalmist David communicating with Jehovah God regarding life.
This world does not consider the Bible. Nearly 100% of the population has a copy of the Bible in their homes, 80% of whom do not read it. The world says that the decision to have an abortion is solely up to women. Jehovah God says otherwise. Who do you listen to, Jehovah or imperfect man? (Acts 5:29) The scriptures that were used above states that Jehovah’s view is more important than imperfect man’s.
2 Corinthians 4:4 says that “among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through” and 1 John 5:19 says that “the world is lying in the power of the wicked one.” Satan does not want anyone to know about Jehovah God and what His Inspired Word the Bible says. Satan uses the political, commercial, social system to deter as many as possible from the reading the Bible. Satan blinding the minds of unbelievers apply to this current “battle” that really should not even be such. When one deviates from what Jehovah God things, bad things usually happen. Even if it doesn’t, one is still putting Jehovah to the test.
So, is it Pro-life, Pro-choice, or Pro-Jehovah God. Lets us be Pro-Jehovah and follow his commands written in his inspired Word the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16, 17) By doing this one will have peace of mind because they listened to Jehovah and not to man.

Hi, it seems to me that you are looking for the easy way out here and that is worse than being on the wrong side, Jesus told us that to be lukewarm offends Him greatly and you are being overtly lukewarm regarding your stance as a pro-lifer.
Sorry to be so blunt but you really need to find your backbone and stand up for what is right regardless of the cost.
Either abortion is right for you or it isn`t, so you had better decide where your loyalties lie in this regard, remember too that Christ never took the easy way out.
I pray that you will listen to your conscience and to the Holy Spirit and not to the lying spirit of this world whom Jesus has condemned and overcome, look to Jesus for your inner strength in this matter.
God bless.

I think you should go to class, learn, graduate and get a job. What else is there for an undergrad to do?
Well, medically speaking, a human life begins at conception. To say it is anything other than a human life is unscientific. Just look at an ultrasound, if you don't agree.
