"Magic" works because you believe it will. It's the belief that makes it work, not the particular spell. It's based on creative visualization. Our thoughts today form our world tomorrow. Some (more empathic ones that have a higher developed right brain lobe) are just better and faster at it than others.

I'm a pagan and I've been practicing craft most of my life, though for a number of those years I didn't realize I was doing a lot of it.
Q: Magic Practitioners: Explain your Theory of Why Magic Works?
A: I agree with much of what the others have said here, particularly sage. I believe that, aside from focus, beliefs haven't much to do with the practice. It's all a matter of energy conversion and manipulation in my view. It's also probably going to be a lot more recognized and better-understood by physicists during the next decade, or so, I believe. I think there's an awfully lot of misinformation flying around concerning what it is, what's required, and a naive lack of concern among many practicioners about the potential damages incurred by flawed, or sloppy practice and discipline.
Q: 1. What Methods/Tools you use?
A: For healing work I use a pendulum for focus [I use a pendulum for focus on a lot of other matters, as well]. I use self-recorded mantras, Gregorian chants, and other 'tools' to assist in meditation. I use crystals and self-designed alters. I use the moon, the interior of the sun. I 'bleed off' and convert 'residual' energy of anger in the population around me. When I'm inclined to do something particularly 'energy hoggish' I use the the interior of the first atomic bomb fireball detonated near here 60 odd years ago. Along with other serious energy sources.
Q: 2. Your spiritual path (if any)?
A: I'm a pagan of an entirely unique sort and I have total faith in what I embrace.
Q: 3. How long you've been practicing?
A: Almost all my life, one way or another. Probably no less than 55 of my 63 trips around the star.

Magick Works because the practioner is able to visualize it working and believe in the power of that visualization. PERIOD.
1. The ONLY tools a Witch TRULY needs is Him/Herself. All else is just pretty props.
2. I am a Green Witch
3. Since 1971, that's a LONG time.
In ALL that time I have done Magick with and wtihout tools and formal spells. The stuff that works the best is when I am able to State my intentions clearly and unambiguously. Visualize the outcome totally, raise the appropriate energy toget the job done and project that energy at my goal. As long as you can do that, you can use your finger, a wand, a used Q-tip, anything! The power is NOT in the tool, it's in the practitioner.

I view the world and being fluid - composed of protons, electrons, energy and they interact with each other to make up what we perceive as reality. Magic is just a way to affect these things, hopefully in an outcome we want. Kind of like a pool of water. You can step in the water and make it splash - that affects it but it really not controlled. Or you can take a stick and stir it and make it swirl. Or blow across it and make ripples. In making the water move you can also move the things in or on it. That is what we are doing with magic. making ripples. and depending on the direction and duration of the ripple it can have a small effect or a larger one (kind of like the butterfly effect) That ripple might set off something else that is kind of a domino readtion. We are just using out own inherent energy and the energy passing through us as the starter like your breath blowing on the pool creates a ripple. Controlling energies and getting them to flow in a different direction. Some things can help some focus those energies - crystals, candles. Really they are just tools to help concentration and direction.
I'm a Earth witch and have been practicing in one way or another all my life (45 years) but intently the past 20 years or so.

To explain how magic(k) works, it is necessary to attempt to define what magic(k) is. While there are many variations to any definition for magic(k), the fundamentals usually do not change. These are namely that 1. There is intent or desire, 2. Some form of energy is used to make the intent manifest in our realm of reality (make the intent corporeal), 3. There is strong enough will to fuel such intent with the energy form (also known as faith). I usually sum this up as magic(k) is the art and science of changing potential energy into kinetic energy through will. It is mostly about probability enhancement.
Now here comes the good stuff. Most pagan traditions term this type of work as energy work. This would imply that modern science and technology have rendered some processes, that were at one time considered magic(k)al or miraculous, as common and mundane. This in no way means that it is so. We have just become so well adjusted to the occurrences of such energy working processes that it is, to many, common. Even laws and theorems of physics actually give credibility to the processes of energy working. Matter (or energy) is neither created nor destroyed, but simply transformed, transferred, transmutated, etc; take your pick.
What all of this means to you and I is that the SAFE practice of becoming a conduit of energy is very much a viable option to us all. It allows us to tap into a bigger powerhouse of natural energy or vibrations and, in deed, change the world around us.
As for my personal methods, spiritual path and time of practice I will try to keep it a simple as possible. My methods are eclectic and vary. Simply put, I follow the path of wizardry. I've done so for about 20 years. The how is primarily necessitated by a number of factors to include, who, what, where, when and why the working is to be done. My spiritual path is unique to me because, as far as labels go, I have not found one to where my belief would be suited; although Pantheism comes close. I basically believe that Deity is a conscientious spirit, life and energy force that is without gender. I believe we, as humans, attribute genders, names, personalities, etc. so as to have a viable means of communing with Deity. I also believe we have been given means within us all to commune with Deity, we just have to get the frequency (or channel) right to receive as well as transmit. This connection allows us to tap into energies and essentially craft magic(k) or miracles into being.

First of all there is natural magic all around us everyday - just go take a walk in the woods if you are lucky enough to be near one (I live in a rural community). I am of Celtic/First Nations/Jewish extraction in like to pick up simple things like interesting stones, sticks, feathers and plants to supplement my own spell box. My spiritual path? As a solitary practioner of the craft I draw from a number of different disiplines. The main message is to NEVER do any harm and all spells must be done in the name of love. I have always felt the way that I do about things (my mum used to send us to church and Sunday school) I remember trying to sneak in comic books or just staring out of a window and "zoning out" while the padre droned. I remember as a young child my own special empathy for all animals (particularily cats, crows and seagulls) - I lived on an island and miss the ocean even now. We as practioners, and I have said this before, are in a way ambassadors for our craft and must always be polite and tolderant while some people may be less than understanding.

there is 3 styles of efficient magic; love-magic, darkish-magic, and independent-magic. each physique does magic, wittingly or no longer. In historical circumstances evil human beings the place doing magic. the classic orders more desirable to wrestle those evil ones. although, they used magic against magic, easy nor darkish ought to prevail this manner. independent-magic is the main efficient of all magic, although purely one curse could be forged. This curse hinders all magic, good or undesirable. the classic orders found out they had to resign their own magic to forged this independent curse, that hindered others, even the main efficient darkish lords could be neutralized. we are without postpone indoctrinated for the reasons to maintain casting the neutralizing curse, out of concern without postpone placed on us whilst little ones. one ought to deneutralize them selves, and prepare others the way, yet this could lead on back into the mystical darkish a while, while darkish lords upward thrust lower back.
