there isnt really a way to get rid of them permanently. every about 6 months you will have to get flea and tick medicine. the long grass is probably causing it. thats is what caused my dogs fleas. well good luck

It's a constant battle unless you want to move to a subdivision where everyuone keeps their grass short. I have a meadow area in my yard and I am lucky, there don't seem to be any ticks out there, and I don't see any fleas becuase we use Frontline.

Use Frontline every month. Ticks might still get on the dog even though they won't bite, so keep checking every time he comes in.

For yourself, use DEET and wear white clothing, long pants and long sleeves so you can spot a tick if it gets on you. Unlike fleas, ticks can't jump. They sit on the blade of grass or on a branch and wait for you to go by so they can grab on.

You can use Frontline or Advantage on your dog once a month. You buy it at the vet or sometimes pet stores sell it, you have to get the proper dose based on the weight of your dog and you have to apply it properly.

Don't let your dog run loose in tall grass. Tall grass doesn't cause ticks, but it hides them and allows them to climb up higher so they can hitch a ride on your dog. I also learned last week from someone battling ticks that if there is construction and earth moving going on in your area it can cause more ticks to surface. They can live in the ground for 2-3 years (Florida), and the vibrations from bulldozers will get them coming out of the ground by the thousands.

Check with your veterinarian. There are now injections you can receive at your vet once a year that keeps your dog free of ticks and fleas. It is a great investment. After your dog receives the shot and you initially remove the little blighters from your home, you should enjoy a flea-free environment after that. My dogs get it and it really works.

Frontline or Advantage do not repel ticks - you need to switch your dog to Advantix -
that repels ticks as well as fleas.

Put it on your dog every single month, and reapply after you give him a bath.

1st treat the dog with Advantix or a similar monthly treatment.

2nd have an exterminator come in and spray your yard.

You can't get rid of them permanently though.
