I drive a rented Ryder truck while at work and I live in Massachusetts. I'm not sure that the truck being a rental makes a difference. I was wondering if the accident counts toward my record and/or if my insurance has to pay for it. I assume it is the company's insurance that covers it but I was unaware if my insurance rate would rise on my personal account.

There was no police report filed as far as I know. The damage was really minor and the guy was really nice about it. I work for a good company so I know they have insurance and I am confident that they are fully covered.

Most rental places are self insured. So if you didn't get a ticket, it won't show on your record. But if you were at fault, and didn't take the extra insurance they offered when you rented, they will ask you to pay for the damages. Chances are your personal insurance won't cover a rental car, most don't. So it will probably be out of pocket.

If there was a police report filed, the ticket goes on your license. If your personal insurance finds out about it, it may raise your rates but probably not since the company insurance covers it. Depends on how money hungry your company is.

Well i dont no how it goes in MA, but in nyc the company would pay if you payed for insurance with Ryder when you rented the truck. If you didnt then thats on you.
