Hi Janie, as with most things that need practice it is often considered better to start training early, however, that is certainly not an unbreakable rule. Many, many singers do not start training until late in life (much later than 15) and quite a number do not have any official training at all. Singing is something that, initially, needs a talent. Without that talent you won't get anywhere (despite some obvious examples of people who have bucked the trend) but with it you can be discovered at any age. If you intend to be a singer (at any age) start NOW...practice, research and yet more practice will never set your chosen career back and can only improve your chances. Leonna Lewis, who is now topping the charts in the UK and, I believe, in the USA a year ago was working as a receptionist. Certainly she had a prodigious talent, but the opportunity came for her in a singing competition call 'The X Factor'. She won and has continued to become a real and genuine 'star'. Most people can't win such competitions and have to progress the old-fashioned way. Start singing in pubs, clubs and other smaller venues. Work on your act until it is a perfect as you can make it. With luck and hard work, lots of travel and late, late nights you can, eventually 'make it' as a singer. Don't think it is easy...it isn't and it's certainly not an 'easy' way of earning a living...you will face lack of sleep, lots of very late nights, fatigue dragging you down and much more. Yet the applause for a song and an act well performed makes it all worthwhile. If that's your aim...go for it! Don't worry about the age factor. I've been a (fairly unsuccessful) singer for most of my life. I love it and although I have never been 'discovered' I've had a long time enjoying the appreciation of an audience and (although I'd do it for nothing) I actually get paid to enjoy this. Good luck and START NOW! Cheers. BobSpain

There is always room for improvement. I would go first for singing lessons, even though you can sing. You can always pick up pointers from other people. Remember your voice is an instrument also, so you'll need to practice singing, it's the only way. If you're of age now, or approaching adult hood, think about joining a band. The only other way is to move to either Nashville or Los Angelos and join the other thousands of hopefuls. To be discovered, you'll have to know someone. This is why I say join a band. Not just any band, but a good band. The band will eventually develop a following and that really is the start of something good. Best of luck to you.

American Idol !
Please practice first though so you don't make an *** of yourself on TV.........
Seriously though, if their is a chorus program at your school, get in it and see if there are any local colleges near you that may have music programs/lessons for the public.
Go for it ! You only live once, so make the best of it and go for your dreams !
Good luck
