Because they have been led astray by a false prophet who if he wasn't a straight up liar was at best deceived by Satan who came to him masquerading as an Angel of God named Moroni, that's why.

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith was born on December 23, 1805 in Sharon, Vermont to Joseph Smith, Sr., a struggling farmer and sometime treasure hunter who descended from an early American family of more than average means and influence. Lucy Mark Smith, Joseph's mother, was a highly mystical woman who was given to unimaginable tales of exaggeration. Lucy's father claimed experiences of divine visions from God.

At the age of 14, Joseph Smith, Jr. claimed he was visited by God the Father and Jesus Christ. In 1823, according to his account, he was visited by an angel who told him of thin golden plates containing an ancient record of God's dealings with the early American inhabitants. During this same time, Smith was enamored of the "seer stones" used in occult practices and gained some small reputation as a clairvoyant able to locate lost objects.

In 1827, Joseph Smith began translating the golden plates using what he claimed as the "gift of God." Three years later, the Book of Mormon was published. In that same year (1830), Smith organized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and became its first president. He continued to claim receipt of various prophecies and revelations, earning him the title "The Prophet" until his death in 1844 when he was arrested for treason and murdered by a mob.

Joseph Smith's writings are the foundation of Mormonism (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). The influences from the occult, Shakers, Quakers, Seekers, teachings of William Miller which formed the basis of the Seventh Day Adventist church, as well as Jewish cabalistic traditions and the Masonic order can all be found throughout Smith's writings. Most of these came out of the nineteenth century religious environment of western New York during his lifetime.

In 1833, ten years before Joseph Smith's death and three years after the publication of the Book of Mormon, the Smith family men were described in an affidavit signed by several prominent citizens of Manchester, New York, as "lazy, indolent, intemperate, destitute of moral character and addicted to vicious habits."

The Mormon church sees God as the Supreme Being of the universe. However, He gradually acquired that position over a long period of time by living a perfect and righteous life. God the Father has a body (flesh and bones). The Christian church proclaims God as eternally and infinitely supreme. He is the same today as always. He is a spirit Being.

The Mormon church teaches that humans exist as spirit beings before their birth. At physical birth, bodies are given to these spirits. They are also given an opportunity for free-will choice. The physical world represents a period of probation. The status of a person in the afterlife is determined by the way that person lived their life on Earth. If the person lived by a satisfactory standard, (including the fulfillment of Mormon temple obligations) that person has the potential to become a god in the after-life. They can also produce "spirit children" to populate a world of his own (like God did with the earth). The Christian church holds that humans do not exist as spirits prior to being born into the world. Humans cannot attain godhood or populate other worlds with "spirit children."

The Mormon church views Jesus and Satan as spirit brothers and sons of God. God put forth His plan of salvation for the world, and Satan proposed his own plan. Jesus accepted the Father's plan and offered to implement it as the Savior. The Father chose Jesus, and the spirit of Jesus was given a body through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity. The character and life of Jesus is attainable by anyone who performs at such a righteous level. The Christian church teaches that Jesus Christ has existed eternally as the Son of God, the second "person" of the Trinity. Jesus took on human flesh about 2000 years ago and was born into the world through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross for our sins, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity.

Socrates guy: it is not a similar question in any respect because of the fact the torah is a factor of the bible and extensive-unfold by ability of the two yet Jesus got here after the torah yet till now the completed Bible. So the Bible can probably be depended on because of the fact this is crammed with regular source cloth. The question i've got confidence became into asked how all of this first source cloth would properly be referenced yet no longer completely believed/depended on. Muslims ought to the two call Jesus a liar or God because of the fact He called Himself God that's a extensive situation if he's only "a prophet" yet no longer the Savior of all. sturdy question Tamm

Because they're twisted idiots that want to twist the word to fit their perverted lifestyles (e.g. having several wives, forcing adolescent girls of 13 to marry old geezers that are 55 or older)

Their doctrines are nothing short of human abuse and child abuse. If you don't believe me, let me take you on a trip to visit all the half way houses in Utah with boys and girls who once belonged to these twisted communes.

They ride this front as if they are so holy, when they're a bunch of perverted quacks among other things. It's about mind and behavior control to satisfy a club of perverts. That's all it is.

Remember back in the old days, they settled in Nevada and Utah in exile. They weren't welcome on the east cause their way of thinking was thought of to be quite odd, and it was also against the law. It's against the law today to live the way they live (forcing sexual and relationship behaviors on children that are perverted and unjust), but for the most part they get away with it for some reason.

However with that said, they're not the only ones that twist the bible. That's why we have all these divisions of Christianity (Baptist, Catholic, Protestant, 7th Day Aventist, etc, etc) It's because these groups of people didn't like what the original bible said, so they basically rewrote it or named their Christian Worship groups something else so they could interpret the bible the way they wanted.

Mormons are the only group I know of that have flat out written their own version of the bible (The Book of Mormon)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but ALL translations of the scrolls are distored....by neccesity. Much of the scrolls were missing and it was left to fill in the blanks. AND, all translations have an agenda. The only translations of scrolls I would trust would be done by language scholars who are atheists..no agenda other than translating! Strangely, when this is done, the meanings of many of the passages of the bible change dramatically!

Everybody reads the bible his own way. There is no truth in the bible, so you have to twist and turn it to make it at least a little bit understandable.

I will start by pointing out the obvious and ask that you first recognize the Bible was written by men that claim the same divine inspirations as Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was supposedly visited by God and God told him the churches were an abomination and asked Joseph to translate 14 golden tablets, which was supposedly a testament of Jesus after his resurection when he supposedly came to America...In the book it claimed that The Indians were Isrealites and they fought in gangs according to skin color...The dark skinned ones killed all the light skinned ones until the last one hid the 14 tablets until God revealed them to J Smith in New York during the 19th Century. Unfortunately God hid the tablets again after Smith translated them...One day a man came through town selling ruins found in an ancient Egyptian tomb and Joseph told the people of his Church that the writings were from Abraham and that he could translate them...and so came another testament of the old testament...Eventually these manuscripts were uncovered and deciphered by people that actually could translate Egyptian and they were discovered to be false, but the Mormon church deny that these were the same manuscripts.

On a final note, the writings of the new testament came verymuch the same way, a man by the name of Paul claimed to go blind as Jesus inspired him to write 3/4 of what we know as the new testament. The rest was written by 4 other authors that lived many decades after the death of Jesus. This leaves with the Old Testament as our possible words of God, however Modern science disproves most of it's science as fictous writings. So how credible can the OT be?

Not only the mormons have made adaptations. There are hundreads of versions of the bible.

To mention two big variations. The catholics and protestants have different varations.

They want to give a different interpretation to the story and they feel some parts of the stories don't help in their effort.

I don't think we "twist" the writings o the Bible any more than any other Christian denomination or non-denomination.
