Tell whichever parent you feel closer to how you've been feeling lately. Explain that you don't like feeling this way and want to get help to feel better. They can probably tell that SOMETHING is wrong, but may not realize how deep your feelings are. If you don't feel comfortable going to your parents, go to your school guidance counselor. They aren't just for figuring out which classes to take or info on colleges. They can help you sort things out and approach your parents for you if you want. Depression isn't a choice you made that you should be embarrassed about (like sneaking out of the house would be), so your parents shouldn't get "mad" at you about this.

Hi.. i know it's a frightening thing to express our feelings and let our parents know about things sometimes, but really now is the time you have to start taking care of YOU.

You can let your parents know how you feel -- "I feel hopeless, i feel sad, i feel i need some help".... it's NOT your fault you are depressed!

Depression can come as the result of our situation, or can be a chemical imbalance.

Thousands of people (maybe millions) suffer from depression... it can be treated and YOU DO deserve to get help hon. I hope you do.

the article below is from a website for teens.. this particular one is on depression, but i think you might find the entire website helpful. take care xo

one. make sure your docter can back you up, that your docter has diagnosed you with depression otherwise if you have parents like mine they'd say that it was an over reaction.

basically you need to sit them down and tell them honestly but not harshly. They may want you to explain what you mean so maybe you could think over what youd say if they asked about it. They may wantt to know if theres anything they could do to help - be honest with them but dont take advantage lol

Yes. Reach out to whoever is close to you. Depression is not something that just disappears. We all need support when we are depressed.

They probably already see it and aren't sure what to do about it. Tell them what's been going on in your mind. Ask them for help in sorting things out. Tell them you've been very unhappy and you don't know what to do about it. They'll help you from there.

how close are you with your parents? it would be easier to talk to them if you are. but if not, talk to your friends or to someone your really close to. good luck.
