Why Do Police Officers Feel they can break the law, and then enforce it on We the People?

I see cops speeding, beating people, lying under oath(No one questions their testimony), doing illegal searches, violating the constitution . and civil rights. And this is just from watching Cops and youtube.

So you see a squad car speeding? By statute, we have that authority to do so in the performance of our duties if the circumstances dictate we have to.

Beating People?

You do realize that if an Officer has to use physical force on an uncooperative subject it has to be justified.

Lying under oath?

If no one questions my testimony what is the Defense Attorney for?

Illegal searches?

Most of the searches that are ruled "Illegal" are done so after the fact and for technical reasons in Court. If I were to be so bent on harassing someone why would I do something that will make me look bad and make my case meaningless?

Violating the Constitution, and Civil rights?

Like what? give me some examples please.

"cops are pretty even keeled unless you give them a hard time, then you're going to pay, and rightly so. "--> This is the reason ignorance is spread between generations. There is no way you can be this ignorant. If you think for 1 second that a cop is going to do this because he disagrees with my POV, you are sadly mistaken. I'm that take no prisoners kind of guy that tolerates nothing of this sort. Do you really think that a cop should be able to mess with people because they don't agree? You are exactly the reason that people like me end up hurting cops. I don't like to do it but you people have made such a point of this cop being right theory, that some people must stand up and show you FOOLS that you have slipped a teaspoon of oil into the drinking water. IT IS CONTAMINATED!!!!

You may be the exception to the rule but I highly doubt you see police lying under oath. Then again, it might have been at a trial of yours and then, of course, everything they said would be a lie... right?

Officers speeding? Do you know what they were responding to when you saw them? I'm sure you have some iron clad response to this so I will move on. Beating people? What people? What did they do... that you know for a fact, if you in fact saw it? If it was video, then it doesn't count. Video, like history, only favors the victors (the filmers and their views in this case). Lying under oath? Covered that... good try. Doing illegal searches? I doubt you even a hint about what constitutes a legal search and the applicable federal and state statutes and case law. Violating the Constitution (yes, thats right, it is capatilized)? Again, I doubt you truly know the meaning of this. Civil rights? I guess it should be explained, civil rights are not what you think you should have but are what are given to you by the statutory law.

Ohhhhhh.... just from watching YouTube and Cops. That brings it all home. Get out in the world and experience life for yourself. You can continue to be spoon fed video clips and biased media reports or you can experience life for yourself. I guess your post explains what path you have chosen. I hope you are able to remove your head from you &#$ and begin seeking the truth, not being told what it is and blindly believing it. Good luck on your endeavor!

Usually on the show Cops you will see the extreme, that is why it is entertaining. There are corrupted individuals all over the world, down every street, in every occupation, even up on the pulpit. This is just a fact of life. This will never ever change; it is the way it always has been and the way it will always be. The only thing you can do is be the best that "you" can be.

Because there is and will always be bad apples everywhere, doctors, teachers, priests and even in scouts, sadly.
This said, lets not generalize, this is like marriage, we only hear of the divorces, rarely of the successful marriages. Everywhere there are far more good people doing great work then there are bad ones. It still amazes me that when a police officer does good, we may see it on the news, but when it is bad, you will see this on the news for weeks if not more. Yet when we are in trouble, who do we call, " 911".
By the way, does you-tube shows all the police officers and firemen who ran to save the people in the Twin Towers September 11th 2001?

Sure there are some cops who are bad, but most abide by the law. You may think you are an expert on search and seizure, but it takes more than watching Law and Order every night ....

A 10-30 second clip on Youtube is hardly enough information to make such judgements. The entire incident would have to be viewed, from the perspective of the police officer, to really understand what went on. Someone who makes such overreaching, broad statements is unlikely to be swayed by any response here though.

How do you know that the cops in the youtube videos and on Cops are in the wrong? Unless you are a law enforcement officer familiar with the protocols of the given jurisdiction and you are familiar with the specific case then you have no business judging them !

Well theres not bad cops theres bad people. But unfortunatly unless you get a old timer you will most likely get talked down to. I swear i try to be nice and speak to younger cops all the time they look at me like they are waiting for me to do something they can pounce on. So lets summarize Old cops = cool guys Young cops = thugs with badges.

I think the problem is bigger than anyone really knows. The power trip these guys are on.. and now with the tasers... they are supposed to be civil SERVANTS....but they obviously are above the law......they are all training up for the police state.
