My pitbull is about 14months old and "he" still squats when he pees... When will he start lifting his leg?
Is this normal???

I mean, is there a way to teach him??? lol
I really don't care it's just that whenever we go over my aunties house (she has 2 pitts the same age, they both lift there legs) and when FatBot squats I just start getting odd questions... I just tell everybody he's a late bloomer ☺lol

It has nothing to do with being fixed or not. Male dogs learn from other male dogs to lift their leg. Lifting its leg is just a means of marking higher and over another males scent. Your dog either is submissive, insecure or not marking territory at this time. When he starts, he will. Even adult males on occasion will squat, some females will lift. Give it time. So what if it never does?

My male dog didn't start lifting his leg until he was around 9 months. On the other hand I have a female who has been lifting her leg since she was 6 months. I was curious about this leg lifting phenomenon, especially with a female leg lifter. I read somewhere that if a female developes between males in the mother's uterus, she'll have more male characteristics, same is true of a male. I haven't been researched this fact!

You don't need to teach him to lift his leg, it isn't a problem. If people make comments just say 'what about it' - learning to lift the leg is not about development. If your dog is castrated, and hopefully he is by now, then he won't be spraying everywhere, he'll be doing proper wees and dogs don't need to lift their leg to do that - I would think it's more comfy to squat!

He'll start one day. The male dobie I have now squatted for quite a while & eventually he started lifting his leg. Don't worry!!!
OH, don't worry about what people say.

is he fixed? mine started squatting sometimes, rather than lift his leg, after he was fixed. not a big deal, and not unhealthy. mine squats sometimes, and lifts the leg other times. I'd rather have him squat, because when he lifts his leg, he ends up peeing on himself. he's a mini-dach, so he doesn't have much "ground clearance"....

if he has been castrated all ready then he most likely wont learn how.. if he hasnt been done yet then he will learn
