We are soon to be moving from Cyprus back to the UK.
I intend to send some boxes with clothes/cd's/books and other personal effects.

My question is, what do i put on the customs label? there is only 4 lines and it asks for quantitys.

surely i don't have to itemise everything.

No just generalise it. When we send boxes full of engine parts we just write engine parts. Put household items or something.

Another example of vague description is "used toys" "used clothes" "used books". You might want to look into this to find out how to declare them so that you will not be asked to pay customs fees, they are very high in UK. Normally when people send abroad they declare either as Merchendise or a Gift, there is customs for merchendise above 10 pounds and for gift above 25 pounds (I am not sure of exact values). I dont know how to declare this if you send for yourself. Also, if they are lost, you will get compensation only up to value you declare on customs declaration.
I would personally write low value, because probability for items sent by Parcel Force to be lost, is very very low so it is not worth to risk paying customs tax. You will get a tracking number and you will be able to track whereabouts of your parcels on Parcelforce website:

Just put "personal effects" or "pre-owned household goods".
