The term teacup is only used by greedy breeders who are trying to sell the runt...the weak puppy from the litter. Yorkies are generally a small breed of dog usually weigh around 5-10 pounds. If you do get a unusually tiny yorkie you have to take extra special care, they can get hypoglycemic, and die. There are some health problems.

Anyone who advertises teacup puppies is not a reputable breeder.
They do not test for genetic conditions. Nor do they breed to better the breed.
They breed for money. These dogs are at risk for a lot of health issues because they are so small.
These dogs are small enough anyway why do they have to be any smaller? It isn't healthy.
There are reputable breeders that do health testing and check for genetic conditions that sometimes have a TINY puppy that they cannot show because of the size. Try checking with breeders who breed to better the breed and check for genetic conditions.
Try the parent club's website. Search Yorkshire Terrier Club of America.
Also why not go to the library and get some books on the breed.
Visit some dog shows and talk with the yorkie exhibitors there.

you can't get a registered teacup as there is no such thing theya re runts and most runts do come with several health isues and often don't live as long. You will also be paying fro somthing that is just a runt.
Yes there are a few ocacasions where they won't need constant vet care and live a long life but those so called teacup need extra vet care and that adds up VERY

The tiny teacups do tend to get medical problems if they are not properly cared for. Meaning diet and excercise and Vet visits. I have a 5 year old 5 pound Yorkie. He is very healthy but I do need to keep him hydrated and make sure he rests alot. Smaller dogs do develope problems such as breathing issues, may have heart problems, and other serious issues. Yorkies are not naturally so small. Humans have bred then that way. When you mess with nature you can expect problems. But if you keep them on a proper diet and exercise plan then you should feel good and can enjoy your pet.

Bruingal is spot on.
There are NO such things as "teacup" dogs.
The really small dogs are called "toys" such as Maltese, etc.
Please tell me you are buying this from a true breeder and not some baffoon in a mall?
Be carefull of underweight toys being sold as "teacups" They are unhealtthy and you don't want to go through the pain, worry and financial issues at the Vet.
Toy dogs live longer than the bigger breeds as as long as you buy a healthy puppy and take care of it you will have years of love and happienesss.

The term "teacup" is just used by those that have produced low quality, undersized and usually unhealthy pups. There is nothing Teacup, recognized by the AKC. Sorry but, their chances of long life and health are greatly diminished.

Excepting illness and injury, he should live 12-15 years. Same as any other dog. (except the "giant" breeds). With proper nutrition, exersize and care, of course.
Some of those super tiny dogs have blood sugar problems, knee and elbow problems, and temperment issues.
Then again, that's true of many dogs, regardless of breed/size, so enjoy him and don't "borrow trouble".
