I know how hard it is when you're trying to drive safely and the idiot behind you is impatient. It's a very uncomfy feeling, but you have no choice. Just follow the rules, take your time and try your hardest to ignore the idiots. :)
I got a ticket a couple of years ago for not stopping long enough at a stop sign. I learned my lesson. Now I don't even look either way until I come to a complete stop!

Just drive safely and ignore the idiots, eventually a cop will charge them for driving through a stop sign.
Though three seconds probably is a bit long to stop at a stop sign unless there's other traffic you've got to wait for, just come to a complete stop, look both ways to see if it's clear to go then go, you should be stopped for about a second or so before you start off again (and I don't see why you'd need at your cars mirrors to see if it's safe to go, that would be to see if anyone is behind you waiting).
As for why people go around you, it's because they are bad drivers.

My son is learning to drive too. It is very hard for young driver's that are trying to do the right thing, when so many driver's out there aren't doing the right thing.
Try not to let the stupidity of others get to you. I tell my son to take his time & don't pay any attention to other's ignorance.
I hope that you remember this experience so that when you are behind a beginning driver, you will remember to be patient with them. I have told my son this too. To remember this feeling & to be kind when it is someone else's turn to learn to drive.
I know from my own son driving, I am remembering to be a much more patient driver myself.
Congratulations on getting your permit & Stay safe dear!!!
:) Hope this helps.

You need to choose your roads very carefully to stay away from traffic. Build up your experience and just drive as slow as you want. Don't speed up to please anybody else.
3 seconds is really too long for a stop sign, and you wouldn't use a mirror at a stop sign anyway. You look out the windows. You can see what's coming before you get there, and as a result of that, most people don't really stop at all if nobody's coming. They just slow down really slow instead.

It's all part of learning how to drive. You are just getting a good douse of observing people who can't drive. Do it the correct way. That's all that matters.

They too were at one time learners, possibly they made the same complaint about impatient experienced drivers.
